2005 shot transmission...help

So here's the situation:

2005 F150 xtra cab lariat, 6" fabtech lift, 36" tires, no modification to gear ratio. I've got 37,500 miles on the truck, no major hauling or excessive use of the truck. The "check engine" light came on and took it to Ford to be diagnosed. They say the tranny is coming apart and needs to be replaced. They say it is out of warranty and will not budge on the $3,750 to fix it.

Anybody else had similar problems? Am I wrong to be "upset" that Ford will not cover this? Any suggestions?

What tranny do you have? I got a re-man 4r70w for 2200 installed. That sucks that it went out so soon.

Wow, what an intelligent reply....so I guess I'm the idiot who thinks he should get more than 37,500 out of a transmission....and only about 17,000 of that was after being lifted....not to mention it was all under normal driving conditons. "Built Ford Tough"....yeah, right! ian51279, i wish i could be as wise as you.

get another opinion on the condition of the tranny. Did you recal. the speedo after the large tire instal? if not that might be all it takes to fix it. The computer doesn't like bigger tires with the stock size in the computer.

A second opinion is always a good idea....thanks Chris.

I have decided that if I need a new tranny I'm not going to have Ford install it...or do any more work on my truck for that matter....anybody have any recommendations on which way to go and what tranny to put in?

Thanks for the responses guys!!!

I have a really hard time believing that if the ONLY way you know something is wrong is a CEL the tranny would be shot. How does it shift? Does it slip? Go get your codes read out somewhere else.

Two choices are 4R70w or 4R75e.

Ford automatics suck. Sorry to hear you got screwed.

I'm just sayin I wouldn't expect Ford to foot the bill. So you put a 6" lift and 36" tires on and expect Ford to believe you drive "normal"? Yeah, I would've expected it to last longer but that's life. Stuff happens.

Sorry to hear about that. I'm actually taking mine in to get it checked while im still under warranty. I have a very slight shudder between 1st and second gear every now and then. Don't want it to get worse. Good luck with your tranny man, sucks it didn't happen 2000 miles ago.

My truck had the almost same shudder, except mine did it all the time. I had the PCM reflashed & it was gone.
