Tranny swap

How hard would it be to do a transmission swap myself? My truck is a 99 F150 with a 4r70w (U type). Thinking about it, it doesn't seem that hard, since I do most of my repairs on the truck. Have never done a tranny swap before though. Can't afford to pay a mech.

Once you get the torsion bars and exhaust out of the way it's a piece of cake. If you do not have the tool for the torsion bar take it to someone who does. I spent about $300 to get that tool, it isn't cheap.

Dirtydog, what is the tool I need to remove the torsion bars, and can I rent them?

Mine is an OTC, I bought it from a Mac tool dealer.

The only place I have found to get it online to show you what it is is Etoolcart.
The tool itself is intended for explorers and then you have to buy the adapters for F series.

I hope that second picture has more than what it shows I know my kit has a longer bolt and spacer pin with it.

well with my truck in the air, and the bolt for the adjuster almost all the way out, my bracket it loose, i put the clamp on it, and moved it just about 1/4", just enough to get the keyway out, there was nothing unsafe about it...

You do not have exactly the same setup i don't think there is a tool for your setup.
