Gear Vender Underdrive/Overdrive

Does anyone have this on their 2004+ trucks? I would like to see how well it performed and how much it costs. It sounds like a great idea for towing and racing. Also it may decrease the power loss between the engine and transmission. Also, would I need to do any additional modification for this system to work with 4x4? I would appreciate your input.

Why not go to the vendors website for all your questions?
The cost can be $2500 +.
If it fits your application, your looking at as many as 8 speeds or more.
How is all this going to be all that useful for the cost?
The unit replaces the rear transmission output housing by boltup.
Then you need a controller as the truck PCM doesnot interface the last time I looked at these units.
Like rowing a boat going thru all the gears.
If the engine had good torque and hp, I could maybe see it's use if money is no problem.
Point being, it takes a certain min amount of torque to move the truck's total mass. Any gearing above stock OD keep reducing the engine torque until the point is reached that there is not enough to push the truck on level road and forget any grades.
Question is, is the extra gears in between really worth it!
Good luck.

Gear Venders units go between the tranny and transfer case. Somewhat popular with the pre 97 diesel crowd with the guys who do a lot of highway pullin' or 80s trucks that didn't have OD.

The unit does have an "automatic" controller, but can also be shifted manually.

I recieved an email from the company's owner saying that his unit is incompatible with our trucks because the transmissions and rear differential have speed sensor that throw a code when combined with the under/overdrive unit.

I suspected there could be compatibility problems of one sort or another.
There is to much interdependency between the PCM software and the hardware in a number of areas.
Some examples are shifting, speedometer accuracy abs braking control, Vehichle ID program block information conflicts etc.
Now we know for sure.
Thanks for checking on this.

what about a 2wheel drive truck, could an adapter plate be made to install the unit on the tailshaft of the tranny?
