the f-150 7700 came standard w/ the E4OD, 5.4L, 3.73's, as well as a stronger front suspension, and increased payload capacity. in order to snow plow w/ your other F-150, Ford mandates the truck have a 5.4L engine, 4WD, and either the Reg. Cab or the SuperCab. No supercrew, for some reason... also, the torsion bars on your other truck are fine, however, you are correct in saying that the ones off the 7700 are stronger.

I pretty sure the 7700 torsion bars are longer then the std ones, so you will also need to consider that in the swap.. I think the holes are already in the frame for where the different cross member location would go for them... That's why I LOL when I read someone say that one of the other features of the 7700 was a 'bigger frame'... From what I've compared of the two (a 1998 "F250" to my 1997 "F150"), there was no diff in the frame size, thickness or whatever.. Unless it was formed out of some other kind of steel, that would be the only diff I couldn't tell..
Anyway, the 7700's also have 7 lug hubs and probably beefier front suspension as well as Load Range D tires stock (the std F150's all come stock with lovely "P" rated tires..)
They do also have a semi float 10.25 rear axle, but it's still a semi floater, so still nothing compared to a full float 10.5" that the Super Duties get..

the 7700 torsion bars will work, in fact anyone who has done a 4R100 swap into a 4WD F-150 has had to use them to compensate for the longer tranny. and yes, i took measurements, and the longer 7700 bars will fit, and the crossmember will line up w/ the predrilled holes. for reference, i have an 03 Scab, and the 7700 bars are 52.75 in, and thicker/stiffer as well.

Humm.. My F150 has the E4OD trans in it from the factory, which is physically the same size as the newer 4R100.... My torsion bars are the shorter ones... I can see where the pre drilled holes are in the frame to mount the longer bars, but they are towards the rear of the frame compared to where my bars are currently mounted?

measure the length of your torsion bars. if they are roughly 52.75 in, you have the heavier duty ones. chances are you do, and don't realize it. all the other torsion bars ford put in these trucks are shorter than 50in. there are several "other" holes drilled past the torsion bar crossmember, btw. if you do have the longer ones, would you mind making ordering for me a lot easier and eliminate any guesswork for me by posting the last eight digits of your vin for me and spring code. you'll be my new buddy if you do.
