351 Windsor 4bbl project.

Hello i havent been around for quite some timei have been busy on Club3g.com. finally bought a new project truck. It is a 1982 ford f-250 ext cab long box 4wd. It is a monster of a truck. As you might have seen it has a 351 windsor 4 barrel and thats the reason i purchased the truck. I plan on taking the motor out and building it and in the future drop it in a fox body mustang. My question is does anyone have any experience building a budget windsor?
i will probly take the Stroker route but any suggestions would help! looking to make over well over 350hp

If you pull a engine, add a stroker kit, and do nothing else, you are retarded.

Budget.... Keith Black pistons $200

Comp Cam Kit $370 (280 grind) You might also want to consider the 292 or 305 grind

Harland Sharp Roller Rockers $218

ARP Screw in rocker studs $33

Eldebrock Victor Jr intake $417

Holly 750 Double Pumper $525
http://www.jegs.com/i/Holley/510/0-82751/10002/-1
Dynomax Truck headers $135

There is no reason to stroke it.
It is already a stroked 302.

These items in a regular rebuild should easily get you over 350hp to the tire.... probably closer to 400hp depending on your heads. Pick up some 1970 HO heads or aftermarket performance heads and you will be in the 450's.

Get the stroker kit and you will seen gains in the torque numbers at lower RPM's but not really that much gain for the buck on the top end. Want more?? Turbo or Super Charger... double you Hp numbers but your drive line probably won't take it.
We get bad drive line failures in the F250-350's at about 550-650Hp. The F150 probably won't even get close before driveline failures.

And you might as well budget another $500-$1000 for misc. parts. If you do it, do it right.

the 408 stroker performs best with a custom ground cam to negate the pumping losses at higher rpms, ported and polished heads are almost a must
