Talking Neal, Feedback on your two 16" fans! Please!

Neal - or anybody else that has an electric fan(s),

Some seat-of-the-pants feedback please!! How do you like them? Specifically: Noise reduction? Any noticable power gain? MPG gains?? Other??

Would you still do the same fans if you had to do it all over again?

I realize that this should go in the "Aftermarket" threads but Neal, you seem easier to find here.

Thanks in advance!

HI!... MPOCRATS : I love my electric fans. My dealer has a different opinion on that!LOL! Read my thread under transmissions. I noticed that the truck is a bit quieter when idleing and on take off. It's hard to hear properly because of my FLOWMASTERS!lol!. I notice that my 0-60MPH times increased and I have more top end, 137MPH. It really cleaned up my engine bay too. I've seen other electric fan installs on other F-150 trucks and to me they all looked like "BUTCHER" jobs. My set-up looks factory and I get compliments on it all the time when my hood is up. Hope this helps you out.

Hi Neal

The pictures of your truck are cool, was only able to view about half of them, the others would not open. I have a question about some of your mods to your engine. 1 what did you do on your tps mod?. 2 your digital air intake temp sensor, did you buy it or make it your self, and what did it do for performance?. 3 your relocated ats, what is it and were did you move it to, and what did it do for performance?. will any of these mods add more power to my 4.6?. thanks for your help Larry

by the way i will be doing the electric fan install on my truck very soon.

HI!... SPEEDER : I just checked all the pic links. They all seem to be working fine for me right now. The "TPS MOD" stands for THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR. That's the wire harness and plug that is on the side of the TB. Turn your key forward to the "ON" position, but don't start the truck. Take a volt meter and probe the center wire. Mine was set at 0.79 if I remember right. You want it to be around 0.98. You can go to 0.99, but if you sometimes get a very slight voltage spike it can sometines give you a bad idle. To adjust the TPS just loosen the two side screws and VERY, VERY slowly turn the TPS till the volt meter reads the desired reading (0.98).By adjusting your TPS, you can get about a 1/10TH off your 1/4 mile times and your throttle responce increases very slightly.

My digital temp guage does nothing for performance. It simply tells me what the air temp is that is getting sucked into the MAF sensor and the engine.

I relocated my ATS (air tempurature sensor) because I had to fool the computer into thinking it was sucking in colder air than it actually was. This causes the computer to richen the fuel/air mix. I wanted this because I was maxing out my stock 19lb injectors and was running out of fuel about 3/4's of the way down the 1/4 mile. This gave me a bit more fuel and helped me in my 1/4 mile runs with the stock 19lb'ers. I have since installed 24lb injectors. I lengthened the ATS wire harness and stuck my sensor out from under the hood right where the fender meets the black window wiper cowl.

As for performace for your 4.6, the TPS MOD will help you very slightly, and the ATS relocated might too. Hard to say unless you do them.

Here's a pic of my ATS relocation :

Hi Neal,

Think you left enough rubber on that road?!? Sheesh!

Though I like all Fords, it was nice to see the pic of you blowing past the Mustang at the strip, you rascal, you.

Your F-150 is a great example of what can be done with the performance of these vehicles in normally aspirated trim with careful thought & a thorough approach. For example, most guys would have been happy to just bolt on their headers, but not you; you felt they were not up to your standards (how well many of us remember those posts!)& so you basically re-built them, re-welded, ground, polished, etc., and that is a good example of the kind of work that has gone into each element of modification in this vehicle.

Which is perhaps why it's running mid-14's running out of fuel at the 1000' mark, eh? With your 24#'s, that should be taken care of now.

We can't wait to see what happens (I think it's next weekend?) at your next track outing, Neal.
