2015 Lift & Wheel Upgrade Questions

Thanks in advance for helping the new-to-trucks guy.

First World Problems
Long story short, I want to balance out the look of a 6.5' Super Crew with larger wheels and a little bit of lift to accommodate, but I have a 7.0' garage max height that is making me nervous.
[77.20"] Stock height on LT275/65/R18 wheels (32.08" diameter)
[02.00"] Levelling kit to accommodate larger tire size.
[03.80"] Distance to max height ceiling (84.0"), minus 1" for bad luck.

Question for Forum Experts
What does this community think is the best choice to improve looks w/o sacrificing utility and gas mileage, beneath my cap? What is this about brake failure if diameter increase is greater than 3%?
  • [33.16"] LT275/70/R18 (+1.08"/3.80") <-- Calculator says brake failure danger @ 3.44% increase.
  • [34.08"] LT275/65/R20 (+2.00"/3.80") <-- Calculator says brake failure danger @ 6.26% increase.
  • [34.82"] LT305/70/R18 (+2.78"/3.80") <-- Calculator says brake failure danger @ 7.91% increase.
  • [35.36"] LT315/70/R18 (+3.28"/3.80") <-- Calculator says brake failure danger @ 10.31% increase.

Target wheels: XD Series Monster IIs
Target tires: BFG KO2 ATs

Your not going to have brake failure with a tire increase that small. Your stopping distance will increase due to the added weight of the tire, so you will need to take that into account.

As for tire size, when you calculating the space you have, you are halfing the amount of tire increase correct? Basically if the tire get's 1" taller you'll only see an increase of .5" in overall height.

If it was me, I'd go with probably the tire that measures closer to a 34" diameter. Any smaller and the difference in look won't be that noticeable and any bigger and the gas mileage hit will be more drastic.

Check out my post of my truck… https://www.f150online.com/forums/20...oyo-at2-s.html

I got mine leveled out, then put 275/65/20 Toyo AT2's on there. My truck measures about 6'7" as it sits today, so the 7' mark will not be an problem, but if you go any bigger with a body lift or suspension lift you'll be over your 7' mark. the 275/65/20 going to be around 34".

I have a 2" suspension lift and 34.4 Nitto's and fit just fine in my 7' garage. I did swap out to a stubby antenna to keep it from slapping.

I don't think I've seen an antenna on the 2015.

Found my wheel combo!
Sharing the pricing I found for the look that I wanted...
Step 1 - [$0920.00] Swap factory 18x9 wheels with Monster XD IIs (also 18x9)
Step 2 - [$0689.00] Lift Truck 3" (Nitro Kit - $304, Labor - $250, Alignment - $135)
Step 3 - [$1260.00] Upgrade to 35/12.5/18 BFG KO2s ($315/each) <-- these work on 18x9 rims!

Total Cost: $2,869.00 + tax
Total Height: 81.80" (+4.5" increase)...2.20" to spare from 7.0' commercial garage ceiling.

Visited David @ 4-Wheel Parts in Lynnwood:
1. Their store is immaculate and has a really awesome selection of truck accessories, including wheels and tires. Great to see some of this stuff in person vs. just online.

2. Their bathroom is ridiculously clean, not something you would ever expect in a building that has a mechanic shop . My son and daughter were very, very appreciative as was dad during potty breaks!

3. Staff knows what they're doing and they're customers too. Nothing worse than going to a shop that has ONE JOB and not being able to find someone to geek out with you about your hobby.

Parts ordered, truck not here yet. Better yet, Dealership has tentatively agreed to buy back the OEM wheels to offset the cost of the new ones

sweet let me know how much they give you for them i might see if my dealer will do something similar. Sounds like a good deal, i mean most of us are going to sell them anyway to get some cash back from the new shoes

I wouldn't install a 3" leveling kit, that's way too much stress on front end components.

Why do you say that? 2-3" seems to be the average, if not the minimum. 6" kits are also pretty common around here. What front-end components?

The factory 18" wheels are 7.5" wide, so are the 17's. The factory 20's are 8.5", the 22's are the only ones that are 9" wide.

Ahh, had wondered about that. The TireRack and Discount Tire "OE replacement" size is 18x9. That somewhat ruins my plan to use the factory tires on the upgraded wheels, or using the Factory tires at all. Might as well just eBay the OEM wheels and tires as a combo then.

Can anyone comment on PizzaMan's feedback? I'm very interested to hear if there's something I've overlooked here.
