Shock Upgrade Options for a 04 F150 5.4 SuperCab

Last few days I've noticed when I go over a bump, the rear end rattles alot more than usual....stuck my head behind my 33s today to find out that my stock, probably original 70k shocks have decided to leak so its time to upgrade.

If I had the money I'd just do a complete suspension but since I plan on going with 35s soon, I might as well find shocks that can handle it. If anyone recommends anything or has ideas let me know.

On a side note, I finally fixed my rear ebrake issue....replaced all the parts and it works great! Improved MPGs but now I have this issue lol.....does it ever end haha?

I just read about the Bilstein 5100s and that they were good.....I wonder if the Raptor shocks would fit, the Fox Racings ones? I believe Gas Shocks

Found them! Price is just insane, especially if the price for the rear is one for one

There are lots of options! What exactly are you lookIng for out of a shock? Offroad? On road? Towing/loaded?

How much do you want to spend is a good question too

Well I'd love to have something to handle 35s for highway and maybe some off-roading......it takes beating on very bad NJ roads by me so something to handle that would be good....only the 2 rear 2 are damaged now so I may just replace those two for now....

Personally i really like the Fox Racing ones but their price is crazy and even with my contact at Ford, I doubt I can get them too much cheaper.

what is your setup? a level kit and BL?

Anything Fox, King, Camburg, DR is going to run you a pretty penny, but will out perform anything else on the market. If you where going that route I would look at DownSouthMotorsports.com, this way you can get them custom built (possibly for less $$ than ford raptor shocks, but still they are expensive) and custom valved for your needs.

For performance on a budget you can't go wrong with something from the Bilstein 5100 series; in the rear I'd recommend the 5125 if you want a monotube or the 5150 if you want a piggyback setup.

I just picked up a lift kit from Rancho, which included 4 of the 9000XL shocks. I haven't installed the kit or the shocks yet, but they are beefy and are adjustable via wireless remote from the cab. It will be interesting to see how they do.

I just recently put a set of Rancho Quicklift Stuts up front and the Rancho 9000XL's in the back. The Quicklifts will level the front of the truck if you have not done anything with that yet. I love the ride quality I have gained from the change. As FX4Life saide, it is hard to say without knowing what you will be using the truck for. I have read very good things about the Bilsteins as well. Both those and the Ranchos are good if you are looking for performance on a budget.

It currently has a 3" body lift with a 2.5 leveling kit. I plan on adding 35s soon since they would fit much better.

I'd love to get the Fox but just can't afford $300 per a shock for the rear.

What's the difference between monotube or piggyback?

Hmm how much did that run you? I like being able to adjust it....lol but that's probably a few thousands correct? If you can get more info that would be great

Ah perfect. Mostly highway driving, it's D.D. all year round and some off-road fun here and there....so Idk what I want yet but I've been told the Ranchos or the Bilsteins would be a great choice, now just to figure out where to get the best deals on them if I go that route

Monotube is just that a single tubed shock, similar in looks to the OEM stuff or what you might get with a rancho shock. They are super smooth and absorbent, I ran them when i first got the Rize on.

A piggyback is just a shock with an attached reservoir of extra oil. Just like the fox shox on the raptor or the kings at the rear of my truck. A remote reservoir is a detached reservoir of extra oil, like the king coilovers on my truck. The extra reservoirs serve to help keep the shock cool in repetitive motion and also aid in dampening. It also smooths out the ride quite a bit!

Monotube 5125 and piggyback 5150:

Recommend any of these? http://www.4wheelparts.com/Lift-Kits...06&t_pl=101369

Even though I just saw 500 off a Rancho kit plus 20% discount on their website.....I'd want an actual suspension lift since it already has a body lift.

Now I know what you mean by piggy back....it doesn't matter to me. But based on that Piggy back may be better

What size tire can you fit with the 5100s and no other lift / leveling kit?

I got it from 4wheelparts, as others have linked to. It was $1991 before the Rancho rebate of $500. $1491 = not bad for the 4" lift + the 9000XL shocks/struts.

If I could afford some tires, I'd slap that puppy on, this weekend. Might look funny rolling around on 31s.
