added a Flowmaster Super 44 this weekend

Monster Muffler in Longmont, CO put in the SI/DO. For the 2.5" tailpipes, I told him, "I like Fox Body Mustangs...can you work some of that magic on the exits?". I was pretty pleased with the result. I dislike big, chrome tips too.

I have been reading alot about my upcoming level kit from AS. It seems that most people are quite surprised that the actual height of the spacer is either "not what they ordered" or "not equal to how much it raised the truck". Here is my attempt at a geometry lesson. :) Imagine that the more vertical line is your front coil. Now imagine that the more horizontal lines are your lower control arm. Now, look at the red segments: the upper red segment represents the coil spacer you have ordered and the lower red segment represents the direct affect that the coil spacer has on the lower connection of the coil/shock. Of course, my intent is to show that the two red segments are equal. The blue segment represents your new leveling kit's affect on the actual height of your truck. Note how the blue segment is longer than the two red segments. I hope this helps!

I once swore to myself that I would never buy something out of the "accessory" aisle at AutoZone. But I was starting to get annoyed at the lack of light in the console when I was driving at night. I bought these strips of pre-assembled LEDs because it was more cost affective than buying the LEDs individually at RadioShack.

Rather than use a mercury switch, as has been shown on other threads here, I decided to use a SPST, normally-closed switch (P/N 275-1548, $3.49/4-pack @ RadioShack) and put it under the hinge of the console door. When the console is open, it looks like this!

Yep, it's as steep as it looks. Pierson Park Road was definitely not the hardest trail we've ever done. But lots of fun!

I got a few e-mails about how I did those LEDs in the console. I can write e-mails all day...but I think I can explain better with a picture.

When I took apart my console, there were two wires going to the 12V plug ("cigarette lighter"). One black and one, I think, was purple. Each LED came packaged with a red and black lead. And the switch in this drawing is the normally-closed push-button switch (P/N 275-1548, $3.49/4-pack @ RadioShack). A 10 Amp fuse was suggested by the LED manufacturer. At first, I thought it was actually too bright so I put in a 7.5 amp and it is just right! I hope this helps...but feel free to e-mail me with questions!

I got a wild hair after work today and thought I'd see if the Switzerland Trail was cleared off yet. It wasn't...at least not completely. I went for a ways but turned around when I thought the snow got too deep. (Note: I was by myself with 1/4 tank of gas and no shovel.)

This is my rendition of the El Cheapo intake mod. It's simply 3" ABS pipe and I ground the end a little to fit through the hole in the inner wall.

A few weeks ago, I got some squeaky brakes. :) After reading around here, I decided on the ceramic Wagner ThermoQuiets to replace my OEM pads. (Yes, I photographed the worst one.) $60 @ Advance Auto Parts

Here was my only complaint (albeit small) from the whole process. It took a week and a half to get the rotors I ordered from Brake Performance. Don't get me wrong, it was worth the wait! But in that time period, a small squeak became a loud grind. Here's what the OEM rotor ended up looking like...yikes! After the break-in process, the stopping is quicker and quieter.

The front brakes are all on. I ran out of daylight so I didn't get a chance to paint the calipers.

I finally got around to changing (what I thought were) my factory plugs at 75K miles. 6 of the 8 came out OK after following the TSB and were all marked Autolite. The two under the ECM both broke and were marked Motorcraft. I guess the previous owner got screwed! Good thing I had the Lisle tool.

I started to hear "the tap" recently. Since the extended warranty that came with the truck is up in about 6 months, I decided to take her in for a look at the cam phasers. Initially, Longmont Ford gave them a $4000 estimate (they threw in an oil pan gasket and a new IMRC). The warranty company didn't like that so they sent out "an adjustor". The adjustor agreed that I had a cam phaser problem but wanted to see the engine openned up to make sure there was no sludge. I went over the dealer last night and took this picture. I don't see any sludge...damn clean for 80K miles if you ask me.
