Will a 315/70/17 fit a standard rim

Hello All,

Does anyone know if a 315/70R17 will fit the standard Ford F150 rim. I have a 1998 F150 Flare side 4X4. Tire rack calls out for a 8.5 rim but I don't know what the standard rim size is.

The 17" wheels should be about a 7.5" width. You MIGHT be ok, but its best to find a wider wheel.

I am pretty sure that 305/70/17 is the biggest tire you can get on the stock rims.

Good Luck

305s are about the limit of safety on stock wheels, however even that is almost pushing it. But I know of some people who are running 315s on stock wheels and this is very hard on the bead area.

I heard the same thing. The guy I am getting my 305's from said they are the biggest to go with or you will really eat through the tires fast and they would be a waste of money. He said if I rotate my tires every 8 to 10 thousand miles I should get 40 to 50 thousand miles out of the 305 Wrangler MTR's.

Thumbs up Thanks for all the advice.

Hello All,

Thanks for all the advice, I think I'am going to go with new 15" rims and go for a 3" lift and 35's, the tires are cheaper with 15" rims. I really appreciate the help.

you might want to rethink that. To my knowledge, a 15" wheel will not fit a 97+ f-150. I went from a 17" to a 16" wheel with 305's. I could be wrong, but i am pretty sure you have to have 16" or larger wheels.

Thanks for all the advice.

Is it because it hits the brake rotor?

You are almost right. I have read here that the 15" wheels will rub the brake calipers, but some have ground the calipers down a bit to eliminate the rubbing problem. I don't know how successful this is, but some here have done it.
If you are gonna change wheel size, I think that 16" would be the way to go.
I know one person locally who just put the 315/70/17 BFG A/Tko on his '03 SCrew 4x4. He told me he had to trim the plastic valance a tad, and no problems. I took a look and the trimming was minor, not noticeable, and the tires looked great. He has the FX4 rims, but I believe they are 7.5 inches wide, just as are all the other 17" Ford wheels. You might need to crank the torsion bars a bit.
From all I have read and seen, it is do-able. Good luck!

Just put a set of 315/70/17's BFG AT KO's on my 99 with the stock chrome 5 spoke wheels today. I have a 3" body lift and just a small amount of rubbing on the front splash guard, nothing I can't take care of tomorrow.

I have 315/75/16 MT's installed on my F250 CC Diesel with only a 2" leveling kit on it. The tires work fine on stock wheels which are only 16x8.....peace

Question How 'bout a 305 as a spare??

Hi.

I'm about ready to spring for the GY Wrangler MT/R 305/70/17's for my ride and it struck me that I may not be able to fit a 305 as a spare in place of the existing 265. Anyone yet to try putting one of those puppies under your truck yet? I'm hearing from my local shop that it won't happen.

Thanks for any information, advice, comments greatly appreciated.
