Rear disc brakes on 99 Supercab XLT?!

When I purchased my 99 supercab XLT last November I thought that only rear drums were available (much to my dismay) for all F150s. Then the other day I see an XLT supercab in the parking lot with rear discs! Since then I've seen a couple more. (ie. not just a one-off) What gives? Before ordering my truck I went through the options list with a fine tooth comb. Is this a late add? Also, since I missed the boat the first time, does anyone know of an aftermarket kit to retrofit rear discs?

Yes, the new models *do* have rear disk brakes.
I just took delivery on my XLT and it came with the rear disc.
I don't know of any aftermarket kits yet, but I'm sure they will cost you $$.

I believe ( not sure) if your XLT was made during or after Dec of 98 the 4 wheel discs are std. I have an XLT I purchased this month (6/99) and it has 4 wheel disc brakes.

Question

Hi All,

So, the question I have is, are the 1999 rear disc brake parts adaptable to 1997 through 1998 and to early 1999 F-150 trucks?

I have just begun thinking about this, and I may call the local Ford parts department to see what they think...

Let us know what you come up with Dirk. It will be expensive, no doubt, but may pay off later in the years (after a couple of Michigan winters) when you want to replace or check pads and don't want to mess with a rusted drum/springs etc...can't hurt stopping power either...
