How to install speedo gear on 97?

It's really simple. At about the back of your cab on the driver side look at the extension housing after the t-case where the driver shast goes in. You should see a small about 2 inch piece sticking out with one electrical harness and one nut holding it on. Remove that nut and the piece will slide out, remove the connector (makes it easier to work on). Now you just remove the clip and the old gear will slide right off, slide the new one on and clip it down, relube gear and O-ring with ATF and reinstall. Takes about 5 minutes, most of which is finding the socket to fit. I would count the teeth on the old one to be sure you did the math right for the new gear. Mine came stock with a 20 tooth for the 3.55ls and 255/70 tires.

Are your instructions good for a 98 2WD? Does anyone have the actual part number for the 19th tooth VSS? I think that is what I need. Either I am not asking for the right part or the parts guy is out to lunch. I am currently running a 31" tire, 265/75/16s. Speedo is not off much but enough that I may forget to back off.
Thanks for the help.

I don't know if your truck has a speedo gear though, crain. 1998-on models should require the computer be reprogramed.
If you want to look for the speedo gear on a 2WD, it's on the driver's side of the transmission extension housing. That's the rear of the transmission. It's held in by a single bold.
