Bad 60 ft. Time ???
I have Mickey Thompson ET Streets 26" X 10" X 16" I run 12 lbs. of air pressure and still sliding about 10 to 11 ft.
My question is what should the proper amount of air pressure be and how long should I do my pre-stage burn out?
I have seen many Lightning's on these forums with low 60 ft. time what's the secret??? Also should the pressure be adjusted after every pass?
Thanks, Suavy 2000 Lightning
Reaction: .509
60ft.: 2.006
1/8 mi: 8.596
1/8 mph. 83.927
¼ ET: 13.298
1/4mph: 105.227

Good 1/4 time-
13.2 ain't bad for a stock Lightning. I think 12.9 is reachable with a quicker reaction time. I used to administer driver's training in the Army, and we had an electronic timer to guage the speed with which one's foot left the accellerator & hit the break. Any reaction time above .36 was a failure- So, considering racing, if anything beyond .36 was too slow a pedal reaction time for breaking- .50 has got to be too slow for racing. (Of course, I hope this .50 probably accounts for releasing the brake, hitting the gas, and the vehicle's reaction to that.)
If not, I think that's where you're losing time; Smoky burnouts will cost you a few tenths too. You might try a wider set of rear tires- maybe 305's or perhaps some "treaded" slicks.
My buddy manages a Discount Tire, and I was there when a kid (21) drove up in his Viper and bought a set. ($1,400) They looked so worn out, I thought they were the old tires... They were brand new- thread was probably 1/32nd of an inch thick.... Those'll lock up, and you'll be on your way. Otherwise you'll have to go under the hood. Two other cheap suggestions- K&N air filter & a freer flowing exhaust (Flowmasters or Borla)- Chip---

That makes you think--
2.0 seconds to go 60 feet. That doesn't sound slow, until you start thinking that Deion Sanders, Randy Moss, Tiki Barber and a few other players run the 40 yard dash (120 feet) in 4.19 - 4.24 seconds)
That means they have to cover 60 feet in right at 2 seconds, to cover the next 60 feet in 2.2 seconds.
Dayum! That's moving out! (Running)

Thanks for the info. However any thing under .5 on reaction time is considered a foul isn't it?
Here's my list of mods...
JL Phase 3 kit...
Ram air system
K&N big tube filter
Super chip flip chip
Azz end lowered 2" for better hook up
2 chamber flow masters
valve body line pressure boster for trany
Thanks, Suavy

Could very well be...
I don't know about that, I've never run at a drag strip before, only races I have done, were stupidly run in the city, red-light to red-light.
I have two friends that are adamant about the drag races, and tells me all kinds of stories about super-fast VW Bugs, Vega's, running 6's in the 1/8th and high 9's low 10's in the 1/4... as well as some smoking new cars- The new Mustang Cobra, for example, that allegedy ran 11.8 bone stock.... Up from the 12 something that MT ran.....
If anything under .50 is a foul, then you are nailing her just right. I'd go to the tires next.
Are you spinning coming off the line?

i dont know much about drag racing or
slicks but, i have seen alot of Ls under 2.00
60 ft times with slicks.
i ran a 13.7 at 98 mph on my stock 01 with a 1.98 60 FT TIME
on toyo proxes st wih 25lbs in them.it took alot
practice though, first times i ran i keep spinning
and were getting 2.3 or 2.4 60s.
are u heating them up enuff ?
it does make a big difference.

Thanks for the info. I was told to give about a five thousand count. You know one thousand one, like that I did but still sliding about 11 ft out of the hole. I went to the track this past Sat. but could not get under 13.5 at 104 mph. It was cloudy and about 50 degrees here in Michigan. It didn't help that we had a strong cross wind at a 45 degree slant twards us. the were buring off the old rubber and appling that traction spray.
I did however win all four races that afternoon. However, I got walked by a S-10 later that night on the street racing seen. That little truck must have been running 11's. He just walked away from me.
Peace, Jay

12 psi is to low, try 14 and see how that works, you will have to play around with the psi. Also once you find the best air preasure, allways check it before you stage.
I run 17 psi on my Hoosiers and get 1.64 60' times
I realize the Hoosiers are different from the MT but it looks like you are running on the outside of the tires. Does it get a little loose feeling on the top end of the track???

Thanks for the info Don, my truck does feel like it floating at the end of the 1/4 run. Especialy when it changes gears. This past Sunday I bought a set of universal traction bars to see if they would make a diffrence. I think they worked in reverse! Meaning the tires break lose easyer than before. I can be going 30 mph now and nail it and the tires break lose??? What do you think?
This was with street tires not my MT streets.
Thanks again It's nice to know that there is help out there. I know that once I get passed my hook up problems I will see my 12's.
Peace, Suavy

Here's the deal
Ok, on a "Sportsman" tree, which is what most people run on a Street or Test n Tune night at the track .500 is a perfect RT (Reaction Time). While on a "Pro" tree, the kind that John Force runs, a .400 is a perfect light.
And to make another clarification, RT does NOT have anything to do with your ET.
For the Lightning guys, check out www.haloclub.com or www.nloc.com those are both great sites for info on the L's.
