Getting New Rubber

Wrangler RT/S Suck!

I hate these tires espically in wet weather. I only have 25,000 miles on them but I need to get rid of them.....

Can anyone give some input (pro's/con's) regarding cooper tires? I have been looking at the Discoverer S/T and SST. I really like the looks of the SST and they do make them for my 17in wheel. It does look like it would be a noisy tire and I can not find any reviews on them at all. I have looked at tirerack and have some ideas of other brands that are out there. Any firsthand experience is welcome!

If you have tires that you really like in wet/snowy weather let me know so i can check them out.

I have a 2001 XLT 4x4

Your input is appreciated.

Talking Go for the ST

I too am in the process of replacing my tires for the 3x on my 98 Scab - after spending lots of time researching I have decided to go for the Discoverer ST OWL - looked at and considered the SST but with all the hwy driving I do - the noise would bother me too much. Struck a good deal on the ST's - $114.00 per tire includes EVERYTHING except tax !!

Unless you do some SERIOUS off roading I would go with the ST's - plenty aggressive enough to get the best of both worlds

Just my .02

I put the Cooper Discoverer STT on my Expedition. They lasted 2 days. The ride was terrible. I think the truck was too heavy for these tires. They were thumping when I drove down the street.
I ended up with Good Year Wrangler ATS. I like them, but they scallop on the edges. (My friend had the same problem). I had BF MT's on my Jeep & they rode nice. Not loud at all. I am already scoping out my next tires. I like the Pro Comp MT's & the All-Terrains. The available sizes may be too big (33x12.5x17) The BFG All-Terrains look good, but everything looks like it would be blocked in. Where does the slush exit? Mickey Thompson has the MTX Radial that looks nice. But the Michelin Cross Terrain received a great rating, but they do not have that "Beefy Look". You need to weigh it out. Go to tirerack.com to look at the tires. When I went in & put in 265/70/17 it brought up several tires. Click on the picture and it gives ratings on the tires. Good luck!

Thanks Guys....

I did goto tire rack and these are my choices as of now.

Bridgestone Dueler AT D693

Dunlop Radial rover A/T

Goodyear Wrangler MT/R

Michelin Cross Terrain SUV

Cooper Discoverer ST

My tire size of 265/70-17 seems to limit what I can get for the truck. I do a bit of highway driving so I dumped the cooper SST's. How do the MT/R do for highway travel?

Does anyone have any of these tires and how did they perform. I am looking mostly for snow/wet weather traction info, however dry traction and performance is welcome too!

Thanks For the help

Thumbs down BS Duelers

Just to let you know my 2nd set of tires were the BS Duelers - lasted for only 20k miles, rode great but now I am in need of replacing them after ONLY 20k. Thats why I am going for the cooper ST's - 50k warranty - wish I would have known sooner !! now its costing me another 500.00 after only 2 yrs.

Run a search on cooper in the tires & wheels thread - ANYONE who has owned the coopers LOVE THEM !!

Good luck

I have 21,000 on my current set of Dueler AT's. Tread depth is at 10/32, started with 12/32. I know plenty of other folks who have had good luck with the Duelers, all getting over 50k miles on them (including on full size trucks). Snow traction has been decent, and they've been great everywhere else.

The Dueler AT also has a 50k treadlife warranty, same as the Coopers.

I am with Gopher on this one...

I am currently on my second set of Bridgestone Dueler A/Ts and they are great in all kinds of traction needs. I do off road driving in the fall hunting, and have never had any problems with losing traction, even with only a little bit of tread on them, but figured that I better replace the tires as I let the alignment go a little too long, and wore the fronts bad.....Oops, my fault. Got all 4 of my tires out the door, including alignment for $568.95 at Tires Plus up here in Minnesota.
Call around and see who has the best price, and if you like somewhere in particular and they are high, see if they match prices, that is what I did....and saved myself over a $100 on all four tires.

I'm in the same situation as my tires are getting to the point I need to replace them I'm thinking of getting some Michelins or another set of the Goodyear Wranglers AP's as the set that came with the truck done okay but in wet weather they don't do as well as I like but I never spun out or lost control with them yet in the rain and I still drive fast in the rain unless it is heavy rain as it hydroplanes bad in heavy rain more so now since they have 43,000 plus miles on them the Goodyears are about 6 dollars cheaper a tire than the Michelins

Cooper ST's

Just put the coopers on my truck - and drove about 50 miles

Wow what a difference , and a little noise to go with it

Anyway I will get used to it like anything else, just wish I went for the 285's instead of the 265's. Still showing lots of wheel well with 265's

Depends on your driving style and habits, here in NJ we need snow tires for foul weather driving

I replaced my tires on my 97 F150 supercab with Cooper Discoverer A/T I really like the ride and have good traction which is needed here in the winter. Got a hell of a deal for 85 bucks a piece installed.

Put my vote down for the MT/Rs, they are not for everyone, but if you don't mind a small amount of noise and a huge performance gain in the rough stuff, they are awesome.

Believe it or not they perform better on the road than the stock tires did...

i'm with native texas,

the mt/r is, without a doubt, the best tire mentioned in your list. good luck with your decision, Rich.

Thanks for the 411 guys....

I don't do much/if any offroading at all. I live in DE so there is a fair chance that I will see snow. I can get a deal on the bridgestone tires since my brother works for STS.

All that is keeping me on the road is my tires. When it comes to safety, price is not a factor. I will get the most that I can possibly afford. Last thing I want to do is crash my truck because I opted for a "lesser" tire when I could have gotten a better tire.

I greatly appreciate everyone's opinions and I will let you know what decision I make.
