295-75-16 BFG

Hi there, I saw a dodge truck running a set of 295 75 16 BFG's the other day. I was wondering is anyone here has tried this tire or even this size. I am hoping they will fit my 2001 super-crew 4x4. Any info would be great...

DTSF-150,

285x75x16 ar about as big as you want to go on a 16x7 wheel.
The 295x75x16 BFG AT recomends a 7.5x16 wheel. The size is equal to a 33.5x11.6 on a 8x16 inch wheel. My buddys 1999 F-150 4x4 ext-cab has 285x75x16 and they fit OK. NOt sure if there would be enough room for the 295x75x16.

I want to get wider wheels as well, but i am afriad that the tires will rub with the wider wheels. How much lift can a guy expect from tweaking the torsion bars?

DTS F-150,

I have these exact tires on my 1997 F-150 4x4 mounted on 16x8 M/T Challenger rims. I don't have any after market lift and have only had them rub a couple of times (including off road). I really like these tires a lot. You can see a small picture of my truck in the classifieds at:

what??

I have 305 70 16 mounted on the stock rims and there is no rubbing what so ever. I have no lift... except for the 1" torsion bar lift. Check out the link for pics.

DJS:

Wow, nice pic. I just bought a 97 - had I seen yours earlier.... Mine's stock right now - but I've been looking around for a good size - width and height and 295/17's look right.

What wheels do you have on it? (size, offset)

Any problems (hills, turns) with that setup? I'm concerned about the torsion bar and the tranny with 3.55 gears..

thanks!

Kurt

Kurt,

The BFG's were mounted on Mickey Thompson 16x8 rims. I don't know the offset; I just asked the shop to order the correct ones for my truck (I believe they have the stock values).

As for problems, none of any significance. There is occasionally minor rubbing when backing down inclines (like my driveway) at full lock, but that is it! The tires have been on the truck for 2 years. I also have 3.55 gears (with limited slip) and did notice a small loss of power, but I can live with it. In mixed on and off road driving I haven't had any mechanical problems at all. The truck has the standard Off Road Package and the torsion bars are still at the factory setting (no after market lift, body or suspension). I am very happy with the tires (~12,000 miles and no signs of wear) and will probably get a set for my new truck.

Don

P.S. I attached a photo of these tires working off road.

ORP?

So what's involved with the ORP? I don't have it and wonder how much of a difference it'll make when getting bigger shoes for my rig.

Is it a shocks/springs package or more?

thanks,

Kurt
