Question new rotors

JUST ORDERED A SET OF FRONT ROTORS FOR MY 97 F150.
THEY ARE SLOTTED AND CROSS DRILLED. GOT THEM FROM J.C. WITNEY.
IN THE PAST I HAVE SEEN POST DISCUSSING BEARINGS.
THESE ROTORS SEEM TO HAVE THE RACES EITHER ALREADY INSTALLED OR IT APPEARS THAT THEY MAY ACTUALLY BE CUT INTO THE ROTOR.
DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THIS IS NORMAL?
I DON'T SEE ANY LIP ON THE REAR RACE WHERE YOU CAN KNOCK THEM OUT. I ALSO DON'T SEE ANY MANUFACTURE NAME ON THE ROTOR SO I HAVE NO ONE TO CONTACT AND ASK.
I PLAN TO USE NEW BEARINGS (ALTHOUGH THERE IS PROBABLY NOTHING WRONG WITH THE ONES I HAVE NOW) BUT DON'T KNOW IF IT IS OK TO SWITCH RACES FROM ONE BEARING SET (NEW) TO ANOTHER.
ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT.
THANKS.

Well I found out today the Rotors are made by a company in Canada called ROTO-TECH.
Still don't know if other bearings will work with the races that are already installed.
Lots of lookers but no replys..

I've been told on this site that races and bearings have to be put together as a set. If this is true, then I'm guessing that to re-use the races or bearings is probably not a good idea. When I had mine machined (or turned as you Americans call it) I was wondering about this too and I didn't see any way to remove the races. Did your new rotors not come with the races installed and with a new set of bearings? Unless I'm mistaken, you won't have much of a choice really, you're going to have to use your old bearings in the new rotors.

Question Question a little off the topic.

WLF,

How much were the Rotors if I might ask? I'm thinking about upgrading my rotors when I do my first brake job.

Thanks,

Joe

Wink

$74.95 each with free shipping untill the end of August.
They have both been delivered and look nice. Found out the company that made them is a Canadian Co noted for making performance rotors.
They did come with new races pressed in but no bearings.
I will see!!!
fFor my truck the part numbers are
47ws0306w for drivers side
47ws0307u for passengers side.
they fit 97-98 f150 w/rear wheel anti-lock 2wd
JCW 877-272-9338

the 4wd trucks have sealed bearing hubs. Only the 2wd trucks have bearings you have to mess with.

When you buy new bearings, they come with matched bearing races that you need to install. Otherwise you can get premature wear from the bearings. Also use only Extreme pressure CV joint grease on the front bearings.

DID THE INSTALL YESTERDAY. IT SEEMS IT IS OK TO USE NEW BEARINGS WITH THE PRESSED IN RACES SINCE NEITHER HAVE BEEN BROKEN IN. IT IS ONLY WHEN KEEPING THE OLD ONES THAT YOU HAVE TO BE SURE TO MATCH THE BEARINGS TO THE RACES.
THE DISCS ARE REALLY NICE, ESPECIALLY GIVEN THE PRICE.
CAN'T BELEAVE THE DIFFERENCE IN THE WAY THE TRUCK STOPS.
I WOULD RECOMMEND THESE J.C. WHITNEY (CROSS DRILLED AND SLOTTED) DISCS.
ALSO, THE PROBLEMS PEOPLE ARE HAVING WITH THE ROTORS STICKING SEEM TO BE ONLY WITH THE 4WD ROTORS. MINE ALMOST JUMPED OFF...

Thumbs up Rotors

That's good to hear WLF. I had seen the rotors in the catalog and they looked beautiful. But I had concerns about the quality because it seemed like too low a price for new, drilled, and ventilated rotors.

Please let us know if you still like them after some more miles and extenended use.
