Tire wear life

I'm looking at getting a set of used Trail Grapplers that have about 7/32-8/32 tread left. Because they are fairly worn is the noise going to be real loud on these? I've been told that as the tires wear they get real loud and that's why a lot of people sell them with half tread left. Can anyone tell me their experience with this? Thanks

I found it to be vice versa with my tires ( Toyo M/Ts ). When they were full of life the hummed a nice hum, Talking inside was a bit of a higher toned manner. At about half life they hummed with a road/wind noise, now at 52,000 miles they sound more like wind and road, not so much the projected hum sound that they once had.

ive seen it go both ways. depends on the width and if they are cupped or not. what size are they? around here most 33x12.5x20 toyo or nitto mts with 7-8/32 go for 200 or so.

just remember how much you will pay to have your current tires dismounted, new ones mounted and balanced, then dismounted in a little when they wear out, and the cost of new ones then mounting and balance. by then youre pretty close to a new set.

They're 285/65/18 and $400 (which I think is a little high) and the place said they will mount and balance for free.

i wouldnt pay more than 300 with mount and balance. make sure you measure them yourself and look for plugs

Ok, thanks. I'm just gonna wait for a better set to show up. These aren't worth the drive. Any suggestions of where to look? I've just been checking Craigslist and Ebay.

craigslist is the only place i look. ive bought my last 3 sets off of there. best advice is to not buy when you "have to" and just browse ahead of time, that way youre not making a desperate buy. i use all kinds of search terms also. but just be ready to drive a couple hours for that crazy deal the day they pop up
