18 or 20 and how much offset?

Hi,

I have an 06 F150 that I purchased new and was going to upgrade the wheels and tires this spring until I unexpectadly became unemployed. Now working again I want to get new wheels and tires.

I put on some fender flares that are about 1/2" wider than the stock flares. How much offset can I have and still keep the tires in the opening (I don't like the look of the tires wider than the flares). Also wonder if I'll have better luck with an 18" or 20" rim and thoughts on that.

Thanks for the advice.

Michael

20" looks much better ( though very opinionated ), costs a lot more.

No shorter than a 5" backspacing, keep near a +18 to 0 offset.

I was looking at a set of Raceline wheels, they have a +30 offset. Will they stick out too far? How are Raceline wheels?

The less offset the wheels have, the more they stick out. +30 is close to stock, only about 1/2" further out than stock, so those would be good. Choose between 18s and 20s by how you like the look the best. Some people like the most sidewall they can get, whereas others like the look of big wheels like 20s. Also, like darren said, 20s cost alot more when buying wheels, and when buying tires.

Great information, it looks like I will need something closer to what Darren is suggesting for offset. My flares are just a little bigger than stock and my stock wheels are tucked a little too far under for my liking, but OK for my winter tires. Thanks for the help.

This is my first attempt at posting pics so please be patient. Here are some pics of stock wheels and the flares on my truck. Thoughts on if a +30 offset will help fill it out or will I need the +18?? I found a set 20's with a 30 offset that I like but if the offset isn't enough I'll keep looking. Thanks for you opinions.

I think you will be happy with the +30 with those flares. Those flares look like they are about as wide as stock lariat flares, maybe just a little more. The wheels I have on my truck are +32 and the tires are the same width as stock, 275, and they sit flush with the Lariat flares. I think with the +30 wheels and a wider tare than stock it will be flush with the flares like you want it to be.

Here are similar shots of my truck, wheels are 20"x9" +18 offset, 5.71" backspacing, tires are 33/12.5-20 Toyo M/Ts. Stock Lariat fender flares.

Thanks man! Glad that I can contribute some use out there!

Since you have the 18" Monsters in +18, here are my 20"s with +18. Just a little thinner of a tire.

Great post, I like the comparison. I am going to go with the +30 offset on 20's. now I just need to come up with a tire size. When I get everything put together I'll post some more pics. Thanks for the help.
