LT or P rated tires?

What tires is best for an F-150 4x4 Screw? I currently have LT245/75/16's Goodyears(stock tires), and would like to go to the 265/75/16's. I have noticed that the Lariot Screw I test drove had P rated tires. I don't do any serious off roading. I tow a pop-up camper, aprox 1200 lbs full, and a bed full of cmping junk, but thats about all. Most of my driving is city/highway. I think the P rated tires should be ok. They are also much cheaper. What do you all think?

you want LT tires

P tires will give you a nice cushy ride when running empty, like on a dealers lot, but alittle bouncy when loaded down. You want LT tires for handling and control when you are loaded down and towing, expecially on the highway. You could always get a C rated LT tire (50psi max) and run them 40psi when empty, and 50psi when loaded. LT265/75R16's will help you get the most function out of your truck.

I say stay with the LT tire if that is what your truck came with if you ever have the needto haul a heavy load in the bed or tow a biger trailer than normal you be glad you had the LT tires.

I like to use a truck for a truck. I generally replace my P rated tires with LT. I like the stiffer ride and need the LT tires for towing and such. You notice the P rated tires will feel squishy compared to the LT's you are running now.

I going through the same thing in reverse right now. Looking to replace my P rated with LT.

Another thing to consider, the LT rated tires are much more resistant to sharp rocks and road hazards. Invariably, when I went 4-wheeling with my old Explorer I would come across some boob with one or two flat P-rated tires. They almost always had a giant tear on the sidewall or a separated tread. It was hillarious (for me) because I could barrel through just about anything with my BFG 31x10.5 LT's no problem. Plus, I could air them way down for sand or mud with no worries.

Question

If you get a 4x4 off road, it comes with LT's.
If you get a 4x4 sport, it comes with P's.
Apparently FORD doesn't feel theres a difference.
By the way, the only thing missing from the sport 4x4 vs off road pkg. is full skids and HD shocks, (other than the different tires of course). Both of which you could add yourself and have a
4x4 off road sport!

LT= Light Truck.....P= Passenger, No such thing as LT and P speed rated tires. There are S, H, V, and Z rated as for common ratings. The general speed rating for those types of tires are S or H. It's located elsewhere on the tire, not in the size.

(P)assenger tires are intended to be loaded at 80% of their 'rated load' -- as they are primarily intended for (P)assenger cars.

(L)ight (Truck) tires are intended to be loaded to their rated load -- and carry the strenght rating and air pressure ratings to support that.

I also have those Goodyear RT/S tires -- and have read much ado about them by very dissatisfied owners.

I have found them to be very good (albeit noisy -- but, they ARE Mud/Snow tires!) tires -- which currently sell for $99 a copy at Sam's club (I'm tempted to pre-buy a set).
