I have went through a lot of threads. But trying to deside if I should put 285/70/17s on my 2000. Yes they will fit my SCAB 4X4 Flare, but anyone know how much of a milage killer it would be. I have 3.55s. I have 265/70/17s now.

My dad put those same tires on his leveled 2009 with 3.55s and the 5.4L. It barely did anything to his mpg. It down shifts a little more than it used to on hills but he probably only lost 1mpg
Pretty sure it will fit, you'd have to hear it from those who did it, but if my memory is good, that is THE biggest you can do. 265/70/17's fit fine and look good, that I know for sure, see it all the time.

i have been running that size, and 305's on my 98 since around 2006.
without any problems. i dont remember loosing much mpgs at all. but did notice power lose with the 305's. but the 285's fit and look nicely.

I put on 255/75/17's on my truck. They are about 32.1" in diameter. The 285's are about half an inch larger. The change in mpg is about .75 mpg less than when I had 265/70/17's on.
Overall from stock, I get about 1.25 mpg less with the larger tires than the stock 255/70/17's.
I live in a very hilly region, and the power difference is notable, but not significant. I still have better accelleration with my Gryphon than stock, so I am happy. Plus, they look cooler.
Edit: By the way, my truck has the 5.4 and 3.55 gears.
