Best All Terrain tire
Best All Terrain tire
I am in the market now for new tires. I drive a 2002 F-150 2WD with a 7.5 fabtech lift. I currently have 35x12.50x20 toyo open country (which have done me well) and looking for a replacement. I wanted to get everyone's opinion on the next tires to get. I am debating between Nitto Terra grapplers, BF Goodrich T/A KO, Procomp xtreme A/T or even the DC Radial F-C II. Keep in mind that I live in the south so snow is not an issue for me (the occasional ice storm) and I am looking for a tire that will be driven 95% highway. Thanks in advance.
Just wanted to chime in as well. I'm assuming you have the open country all-terrain right now. The terra grapplers are more or less the same tire with slightly different looks. But they're a great tire. The BFG's are obviously great tires as documented on here by most. They have great tread life and are a great all-purpose tire. They're also quite expensive. I felt the Nittos had a better ride (they're a bit softer) and didn't sacrifice too much in the wear department. I got 56,000 miles out of mine with plenty of tread left. So especially since your needs are mostly highway, my vote actually leans toward the terra grapplers. Don't have any experience with the other tires you mentioned.

I've run the BFG's, Toyo and Nitto AT's and would have to give the nod to BFG because they last so long. I sold a set with 43k miles and they still looked new. Main drawback is the price.
I agree with everyone on the BFG, I had a pair that lasted easily 60k, only grip is there not great in snow, which isnt a issue for you and the sidwall design is boring. Im having DC FC11 installed on my truck tues. First for them, will report after some time
good luck!
good luck!
I'm currently running the Terra's. Absolutely a great tire. I've run through some light mud, sand, 8" of fresh snow, packed snow, ice, you name it I've been through in the last few months and they've performed flawlessly.
I never said they weren't. I've owned both tires. My point was, other than not being able to get 100k miles (slight exaggeration) out of a set of tires, I'm not sure the BFG really "beats" the Terra Grappler. And as I mentioned, with proper rotation and balancing, you can get more than sufficient mileage out of the Terras. I feel 56K with plenty of tread left is doing pretty well. I preferred the ride of the Terra's over the BFG's and they performed great in every condition I put them through here in South Texas. So in my opinion you get "more than what you pay for" with the Terra's.
I used to run the BFG but in my opinion they are very dated. The last set I had cupped badly and I did not like the ride as they wore down. And yes, I rotated them and had them balanced frequently. I have the Terra Grapplers now and have been happy with them so far. For a milder performance but better ride I use the Desert Dueler AT's on my other SUVs.
I sold tires for 5 years so I have some experience in this area. Pro Comp A/T's are junk. BFG's and Nitto's are great tires. I have ran both tires and liked both. BFG's are more expensive but they did better for me on wet/snowy roads than the nittos. On the other hand the nitto's did better once you got off the road. In my opinion the best all terrain out there is the Cooper Discoverer S/T (and they look better), but you will not get the mileage that you will out of the BFG's or Nitto's. I live in PA were winters can be bad plus I get my truck off the road too. If it is strickly highway go with the BFG's.
