TPMS problem in new wheel

I bought new wheels and tires with new TPMS sensors in them. My light keeps coming on. I'm running 40psi in the tires. Could the higher tire pressure be causing this issue? My truck is an 07. Any thoughts?

Have you programed your truck to accept the new TPMS? Read your owners manual, and follow the instructions. I have to program mine every time I switch from winter rubber/rims to my original factory set for summer, and vice-versa. Also, are you sure you got the proper sensors? The new sensors I hear will not work with the old system. I know the old system will not work with the 09/10 generation. They attach differently amongst other things.

No, I did not reprogram the truck. Didn't know I could. I'll check my owners manual. My truck uses the bands. The wheels/tires are from wheelfire.com and are supposed to have the bands in them. I can't tell because they're inside the tire.

I ran the truck for a week with no light issues. It wasn't until I ran them on the turnpike at 75mph for about 20 minutes. I also had my Ford dealer check them out when I brought my truck in for warranty work. They said it was working fine. They did, however, set my pressure back to 36 when I asked specifically for 40psi. My tires are 325/60/18's. Max load psi is 50. I should be good running 40?

I also just purchased a SCT X3 from Troyer, it should be here tomorrow with custom tunes to follow. Is there anyway to program tire pressure with the SCT?

Thanks for the help.

You should be good at 40, although I can't say for sure without knowing the LR, max pressure, and weight carrying ability at max pressure. Let me know the brand and model and I can look it up. 35 is i bit low. You need the reset tool, which the dealer has. He should do the reset for nothing. Takes about 2 minutes to do and the procedure is list in the owners manual. you may even want to get your own reset tool. Cost is about $25 at the dealer.

My tires are 325/60/18 Nitto Terra Grapplers.

I don't have any problem buying the reset tool but I want to make sure it wont mess up my tunes???

Also would it be worth it to get them nitrogen filled? It's seems with this weather(temp changes) my tire pressure changes day to day hour to hour.

If they have a max of 50, they are XL P series tires. 40 should be fine with those. They are listed as 300lbs per tire, but since they are P series, they are only rated to about 2700lbs when used on a light truck. If doing towing or heavy loads, you might even want to go higher.

Reset tool only resets the TPMS, nothing else.

IMHO, nitrogen isn't worth it on a daily driver.

So even if I reset it the light will come back on eventually?

I won't mess with the nitrogen. At least I have the convenience of having my own air compressor.

I just want that stupid light to go off.

I appreciate your help.

Did the people who mounted the tires break the sensors?

No the reset tool resets the TPMS system to read the new bands in the tires. They all have different codes like a garage door opener so your truck is looking for the old bands still.

Once it is done if the sensors are working correctly the light should go off as long as the tire is not underinflated and should not need to be reset again.

x2. I go back and forth between 2 sets of tires/wheels. Summer and winter. No problem.
