285/75/18 + 2008 18" Factory wheels question

Hello everyone, I just received my Toyo M/T 285/75/18 and called to setup an appointment to have them installed and was told that it was unsafe to run an 11.5 inch wide on a 7.5 inch wide wheel. The salesman said I need at least a 8.5 inch wheel for it be safe. Is this true or was he just trying to sell me new wheels? I have a 2008 FX4 with the 18x7.5 wheels. Please let me know what you guys think.

For 12.5 inch wide tire the smallest rim you can run is 8.5inches, so by that im assuming that a 11.5 inch wide tire would work fine.

I throw the BS flag. Thousands and thousands of F-150 owners here and at FTW have been running 285mm (11.50 inch) to 315mm (12.50 inch) wide tire on the OEM 7.5 inch wide wheels since 1997 with no problems. Most manufacturers recommend at least an 8 inch wide wheel for 12.50 inch wide tires, but I believe most manufacturers approve a 7.5 inch wide wheel for 285mm wide tires.

I agree, those tires will fit easily on the stock wheel's. The narrower width should clear the upper control arm too.
