2008 2wd New Wheels and Tires
2008 2wd New Wheels and Tires
Sorry to post this, but I've read and read and just need to ask so we can get this show on the road. My brother has a 2008 standard cab XL, 2wd. Santa came and offered to buy him wheels and tires. I'm completely unfamiliar with the sizing available for these trucks (I drive an 02 FX4 supercrew). So I'm looking for a little help here.
What would look the best? Will 20's be acceptable since he just has a standard cab?
So basically, if 20's, what wheel and tire specs is he looking for?
If 22's, same question, what wheel and tire specs are we looking for?
Thanks so much. I appreciate the help!

Thanks. So is that roughly what size I should stay when looking at new? I'd like to get him something that fills it out a little more. Going for more of a street look. So definitely getting a street tire (recommendations please!). We lowered his back end to level it out (lowering shackles). Here's a pic of it now:

We are planning to PTM front and rear bumpers and we'd like to stick with a black wheel. Thanks for the help!

Here's the 245's on mine for refference:

As you can see, you could go bigger.
Thanks y'all. Is there much of a price difference between 20's and 22's? Trying to keep a budget in mind and have the ability to get some 20's at a reasonable price. What tire size would you put with 20's? Thanks again!
22's have become much less expensive. If you decide to go with 20's, a 305/50-20 is the same height and width (basically a 32x12.50) as a 305/40-22.

Awesome. Thanks guys. Any suggestions for good tires for this application? Like I said, I've got an FX4 so all I've ever read about are all-terrains and mud-terrains, haha!. Thanks again!
factory sizing is the 275/55/20 its 31.9x10.82-20
i would recommend staying with something around 32" total diameter like the sizes suggested offset will affect how wide you can go you may rub with 305s depending. go to tirerack.com or tires.com there are several ways to save check local tire shops too some of them where i am will match or beat online pricing to get business.

Wandell, I notice you're running 305/45/22 on your expedition. Is that too big for the f150? Also, are the general grabber uhp any good?
Thinking about pairing these tires in either the 20 or 22 with a set of KMC Slides

yes there will be no more suspension mods, just the lowering shackles in the back. I wanna say it was like a 2" drop to level it out. Will the KMC slides be ok in either 20 or 22's? I think the backspacing was a little more than 6.
Yes, I'd want more than 6 inches of BS. With a street style package you don't want the tire/wheel sticking out of the fenders. My wheels have 6.7 inches of backspacing and the edge of my tire/wheel is just about even with the fenders up front and slightly tucked in the rear. I have pics in my gallary.
