Help Choosing a set of tires????

When I bought my truck the dealership had put on a brand new set of crappy cheap goodyear wranglers SRA's evidentally they failed to do an alignment because the insides of the tires are cupped. I rotate and keep em inflated. Anyhow I have been waiting to replace these tires so I can get something that looks a little better. I have the bilstien 5100 shocks installed front and rear, so shes leveled out. I'm looking for a tought looking tire such as an A/T. I really do not do any offroading I just want the agressive look of the tire while stilll retaining functionality, tread life, and road noise. So any M/T is out.
The truck is 2007 Fx4 with leveled. I have the stock 18inch factory rims that I will be keeping. I want to go with a larger tire to help fill the void wheel wells. Drivetrain and gears are all stock I do have the Gryphon programmer. I'm thinking 33's. Either 285/65/18 or 275/70/18. I do have a tight budget I'm trying to stay around $220/tire or less. I have found Kuhmos but on tire rack a lot complained about flat spots in cold weather when the truck sits and causing vibrations. I also found General grabbers but it seems that people that do a lot of Hwy driving (like me) the tires wore out in 20,000 miles. I am happy to get 40,000 miles out of a tire anything more is icing on the cake.

I'm looking for some feed back. What tires do you have and love or hate. I rarely tow or haul anything but my work commute is a total of 65 miles on I-40 from one side of knoxville to the other and back. So I need something that can handle the interstate speeds (55-70mph).

BFG AT KOs in the 275/70. It's a bigger tire than the 285/65 and actually cheaper because of the rims widths it's limited to. I think it maxes out at a 8.5" rim but that lines up good with the stock rims.

I think of all the sites I looked at when I was looking for tires Tirerack was cheapest at $190/tire. Take a look:

And I wouldn't recommend them if I didn't love them.

I am willing to look at the BFG's They concern me since I had a set on my tundra and I only got 28,000 miles out of em and I rotated them every 5,000 miles. They were the tires that came on the truck brand new.

But for the look, size, and price you really can't argue.

Also, I shouldn't have any issues with tires rubbing uca's or fenders if I stay with a 33" 275-295 width right?

You could take a look at the Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac in size 275/70R18. Tire Rack has them for $237 per tire. Tire looks aggressive but handles really well on the road.

Were they the ATs? Rugged Trails are crap. That's what came on mine. ATs are awesome. You have members on here getting 70K-80K out of the ATs. I've had three sets and loved them all. Didn't get that kind of mileage but I did get 45K and that was because I was running the air pressure too low.

It was the At's that came on my tundra. Not sure what the ratings were on them for load and speed, but coming from the factory I would assume that the tires should handle the vehilce they are installed on since it was brand new.

What pressure did you run in them? I ran whatever the door jam sticker said to run. I think it was around 35-45. I know when I replaced them with Destination At's I ran a little more pressure I think 45-50. (it's been so long I can't rememer the details of my old truck)

I notice that you are running Terra Graps on your truck now?? why not the BFG's?

Wow, I didn't know that Tundra's came the the AT KOs. My truck came with the rugged trails. Ran them at the door sticker recommendations but I didn't realize that the door sticker was based on a different class tire. Thanks to F150Online I now know my error.

As for my tires now. They are Trail Graps. I wouldn't have bought Terra Graps. Just don't like their look. I had to have new rims because I cracked one of my stockers and knew that I wanted 18x9 rims. And I knew that I wanted a bigger tire. The BFG 275/70 doesn't fit that rim or I would have bought them. Next step up and they are outrageously more expensive. My trail graps (which is a MT tire), through RimzOne's Ebay store, were cheaper than buying BFG's AT KOs. Overall I saved about $400 by buying my current wheel setup than by buying rims and the size equivalent of my tires in the BFGs. So money was a big factor but overall I like the look of my Trail Graps in their MT style versus the BFGs.

That being said, had I not wanted the new rims I would have went with the BFGs. And I will never buy another Goodyear. So that eliminates the Duratrac for me.

well my tundra was an 06 TRD so those tires may have only come on the TRD models. I'm not sure what new model tundras come with. But when I was looking to replace tires on th tundra I thgouht that BFG had the A/T and the A/T KO I may be mistaken there.

Big difference in price between 1010tire.com and tireack on the BFG's that's 100 bucks per tire

LIke I said I can't remember 100% about the tire pressure, but I'm sure I have read that certain tires such as LT tires will do better with a little more air. Maybe that's why some people don't get much milage out of their tires and trash the tires on tirerack. Maybe it's more a matter of opinion. I guess it would be good to find out. I just figure if you are running different the stock tires it would be better to follow the PSI rating on the tire rather than the sticker.

Who Knows???

Hey Nick, I have put nothing but BFG AT KO's on my trucks and have always gotten over a 100,000 miles of wear out of them with regular rotation and running the max. pressure listed on the tire which is 50 psi. Great ride, excellent in the snow and just a great overall tire for the money. If you look in my albums, you'll see a pair I saved from the last tire change and they have roughly a 160,000 miles on them, of course they don't have any tread left on them, but I actually got around in the blizzards we suffered last winter on those tires. Changed them this past May or June, can't remember off hand, and got a set of 315/70/17's for $905 not mounted or balanced (I have a friend who does that for me for free). On a side note, The Goodyear Wrangler R/T's are crap, had 1 on my in-law's sport trac explorer go bad for no apparent reason other than a weak side wall. Wife was driving it at the time and ended up having to walk a little ways toward home before she was able to get a hold of me to pick her up, unfortunately she doesn't know how to change a tire

You could look into the pro comp all terrain, not sure on pricing but they have a 50,000 mile treadwear warranty

Only thing with pro comp is that they don't have a 33" tire for an 18" stock rim. They have the 275/65 which is right at 32" I'll look at pricing for them anyways just to see.
