Does anyone know how the Cooper Zeon LTZ compares to the Michelin LTX M/S2?

I live in NJ and drive mainly highway.....and need tires that can handle rain and snow. No off roading.

I've read nothing but great reviews for the Michelins....aside from the high price. I know they're not made for off roading but sound perfect for street and all weather.
I've read mainly great reviews for the Coopers but I've heard about some people losing some gas mileage (.5 to 1 mpg loss) and tires wearing out quicker than expected.

I figure that if the Coopers decrease gas mileage and don't last as long as the Michelins then the higher price of the Michelins is actually worth it.

I guess the price difference is about $400 for the set of 4.

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Michelin is one of the best tires on the road today. I dont think the cooper is in the same league.

 

I have the Cooper Zeon LTZ on my truck. I think they are an excellent tire for the price and they handle light off roading great and are very good on the street so that fits my needs perfectly. I also have the Michelin LTX M/S2 on my wife's Explorer. It is an excellent tire as well, super quiet and very responsive on road. I fully expect to get 50,000 miles on the Coopers. I have about 20,000 on them now. The Michelins are warranted for something like 75-80,000 and with about 20,000 on them as well show zero signs of wear. My advice would be if you are only highway driving get the Michelins. If you go off road some or just like the aggressive look then get the Coopers.

I had the LTX's on my ranger and hated them, they lasted a month on there when I bought it and I agree they looked like a balloon even on my ranger.

 

the michelins are great tires. but i cant stand the looks of them. theyll never be on any of my vehicles.

the coopers look pretty cool and are cheap. they have a super stiff sidewall too

 

I had Michelin LTX MS on my Ranger and F150, just got MS2's on my F250. The tires can definitely handle rain, snow, highway, light offroading and even medium packed sand.

If you care about looks, consider what looks less stupid (1) boring looking tires and not getting stuck or (2) cool looking tires and getting stuck. I'll stick with the sleeper tires which keep me moving.

 

In the tire size for my truck, 275/55/20 the Cooper weighs in at 52lbs, and the Michelin weighs 40lbs. At 14/32 tread depth, the Cooper has more thread and is a heavier tire. As tire weight goes up, the energy required to spin it goes up, and gas mileage goes down. Cool costs money.

 

I went with teh Michelin and love them. I have about 400 miles on them already and they rule.....aside from the price.
Cheapest price around was $1200 from Sears. Ouch.

BUT, my gas mileage has increased!!!! Between my 2005 screw and my 2008 screw I never got better than 12 mpg. Normally I get around 11.6. I have refilled my tank twice on the new Michelins:
city-80%/highway20% = 12.6 mpg
city-30%/highway70% = 13.2 mpg

So I'm getting between 1 mpg and 1.5 mpg improvement. The tires will pay for themselves over time.

And they ride great im the rain and dry. Best tires I have had on a truck in my 20 years of driving trucks.

And I agree...Coopers ain't in the same league as Michelins!
