Mickey Thompson MTZ Tire Question?

I have a quick question about 35" Mickey Thompson MTZ's

I have had them installed on factory 17's with the bilstein 5100 shocks front and rear for just over 2 years. I noticed as soon as they where installed the ride was a little rougher not the boucing around type but you could really feel the aggressive tread when braking and slowly crawling through traffic. Just thought this was normal for an agressive treaded tire. I rotate the tires about 5000k. When I rotate the the tires I go in an "X" pattern one time then do a "II" ( front to back) the next time and just keep going through the rotation. The last time I rotated them I done the "II" pattern and noticed the roughness got quite abit worse. You can really feel it in the back passenger side tire when braking. I had it to a machenic for maintance and he checked the tires tread depth and he said the back passenger tire had more tread then the others and wouldn't suggest rotating it. All the other tires wore evenly.

I guess my question is can I do something with the tire pressures to elimante some of the roughness?

Thanks
Jeff

Yes, tire pressure makes a huge difference in ride quality. I wouldn't go below 40 psi for daily driving though.

The lower the pressure the smoother the ride (to an extent). Bumping the pressure from 35 to 40 wont help smooth the ride at all, if anything it will make it stiffer.

Right, I was thinking your pressure would be higher.

any other thoughts??

It is kind of annoying. I may rotate the tires again and move that tire to the front see if that helps I will probably feel the roughness in the steering wheel then.

Unfortunately, it sounds like what you are experiencing is typical mud tire characterisics.

My MTZ's seemed to often need a balance when rotated. I rotated them every ~5000 miles and they would ride smooth before I rotated them and then would turn rough. If I had them rebalanced, they would smooth back out. I didn't really see any uneven wear on mine though. I ended up springing for a lifetime balance package and used it.
