How big for stock truck?

I've got a 1998 4.6 F150 XLT 4X4. Stock 16" rims. It's got 265's on it right now and it still looks rather puny in my eyes. What's the biggest I can go without doing a level or lift? 285?

yeah a 285/75R16 is your best best....you might could squeeze a 305/70 on but a 285 will be safe and look big enough. I have pics in my gallery of my old truck with 285/70R17's.

Thanks Hawg. Your truck does look good. It's amazing how much tires will change the look!

Yeah even just going up to a 33 from the stock size, you will be really pleased when your truck backs out of the bay with the new tires on. It can instantly make your truck look better. What tires are you looking at?

Don't know yet. I haven't really gotten into it yet. Any suggestions for a larger tire with an aggressive tread that won't break the bank?

Good thing for you is you are in the 16'' rim diameter, tires are much cheaper.

Depends on how aggressive you want to go but here are some suggestions:

Maxxis Buckshot Mudder, Maxxis Bighorn Radial, Nitto Terra Grappler, Hankook Dynapro MT RT03 (had these on my old truck and loved them), Hankook Dynapro ATM, Toyo Open Country AT, Dunlop Rover MT Maxx Traction (had these and liked as well). Going up in price you could look at the Toyo Open Country MT, BFG All-Terrain TAKO.

There are more but these are a great start....
