Will 305's fit a 7" wide rim?

I searched but couldn't find the answer....
I saw this size on an Expy yesterday, I liked the look.
What's the largest size tire I can put on a 17x7 wheel?
Also...Does leveling ones truck affect the gas mileage?
I know bigger tires can, depending on their size/weight.
Thanks, MB

7" is too narrow for that tire. Everything I have seen states at least an 8.5" wide rim. 8" would probably be okay, but 7" is way too narrow.

You really need a 9 inch for that size, you may be able to get it on but you cut the tire's life in half by putting it on that narrow of a rim. In other words you wont get but maybe half of the mileage the tires rated for.

I've never seen a 17x7 wheel. Even the OEM F-150 and Expy wheels are 17x7.5.

Wandell is correct. 17"x7" wheels do not come as OEMs on F-150s. Even if they did I would be very careful about 285/295 11.50 R17s on a 7" wide wheel. It will depend on the tire and brand. MTs will not work...

Thanks Wandel...I'm sure you're correct. I guestimated that the wheels were 7"...
I was just looking through The TireRack, and was curious on the widest I could go on the factory wheels. I'm good at rotating them, and I don't need new ones just yet. I can't believe I've got 66K out of them as it is!

(I had an '88 150 that wore through tires in 30K....those glorious years where some 4x4's came from the factory with such bad camber-angles you could see the front wheels "leaning".)

If your Expy is a 4x4, I'd go with a 285/70-17 (33x11.50) tire.

You'd be much better off with a 8.5 or larger wheel.

Yes, you can fit them. THey will rub slightly on the control arms at full steering lock. Yes, most 305mm/315mm wide (12.50 inch) wide tires recommend at least a 8 inch wide wheels, several members here and FTW have run them with no problems at all.

...oh and i think im gonna go with the 18x9 mickey thompson classic II's and a 305/70/ 18 procomp extreme all terrain... any other input would be great, especially cause im not to familiar with pro comp... ran toyo open country's on the last truck... not much to say on those tho...

A 305/70-18 is basically a 35x12.50 tire. To fit them with only a leveling kit you will have to use the OEM wheels or a 18x8 inch wheel with 5.5 inches of backspacing. You will need more lift to fit them using a 9 inch wide wheel. If you are gonna use the 18x9's, I'd stick with a 305/60-18 (33x12.50) or a 325/60-18 (33x13.00).

cool...

i was also thinking about droping a size in wheel diameter... down to a 17 inch wheel... if i do that what size tires can i fit...

i really want the look of an aftermarket wheel but even the difference in an 18 to a 17 will save me sum $$$...so if i go 17's... what size tire do u recomend and how wide of a wheel with how much back spacing?
