Question TPMS Location- Help Please

I have an 09 F150 Supercrew 4x2 Lariat. Stock tires are 275/55/20. Rims are machined aluminum Ford OEM 20". My question is "Where are the TPMS sensors located on the 2009 20 inch wheels? Are they banded or part of the valve stem? I ask this question because I am told buy a 2009 Platinum owner that his are part of the valve stems. It will make a big difference if I change wheels and have the wrong TPMS.

****For those like me that don't know, the '09 F150 Platinum owner I spoke with is correct. The 2009 F150 with 20" wheels has the TPMS located in the valve stems. ***OE Part #9L3Z-1A189-A*** It appears my local dealer did not know what he was talking about. After I gave him the part number and he looked it up, he says "Looks like you are right."

Thanks for any help in advance.

All 09s have the valve stem type. You can move the sensor, but would have to purchase the valve stems they are connected to if moving to other wheels.

Makes sense to go back to the old system. The sensors on my 05 Expy are mounted on the valve stems. It's a one piece unit. My shop just unbolted them from my OEM wheels and bolted them onto my 22's.

Thanks for the replies. My 2 local shops were/are clueless about the 09 F150 TPMS. Both told me they were banded. Another member on this site told me they were part of the valve stem.

They are not part of the valve stem, but attached to it. The valve stem is a special one that has an attachment point that the sensor screws onto. If you switch rims, you can move the sensors, just by purchasing new valve stems.

Mine has them attached to the value stems as well. I am glad they went away from the sensor hooked to those bands on the 09’s. The cost to replace them when upgrading to new wheels and tires is expensive.

You do have the valve type sensor. Tire Rack has them for $68 each or if you want you can transfer the sensors from your current wheels to the new wheels. If you want to use the old sensors you will need a replacement TPMS Kit. The kits are $3 each. Depending on what wheel you go with, you will want to make sure the wheel is TPMS compatiable.
