The "stars" are mounted with four plastic tubes which hold them away from the center of the wheel. They are held on by 4 allen head bolts.

I cut the plastic tubes 1 1/8" shorter with a hacksaw. I cut the allen bolts 1" shorter and used the bolts to fasten them back to the wheels. The hardest part was cutting the bolts and I recommend a good saw blade as they were very tough.

Another member named Krusedisc showed how to do it near the bottom of this thread here:

I followed his procedure and I think the stars look a lot better tucked into the wheels.

Your truck looks awesome. I have the exact same color and options, along with the 20s. Great job!

Looks great, very well done. Expensive wheel and tire combo but well worth it. Tail lamp smoking time!

I really want to paint my running boards, however there are a couple of things that concern me, was it easy to remove them, and I don't know how much road time you've had with your new setup but how are they holding up to debris that's being shot up from your tires? I don't want to have to constantly apply new coats every couple of months or so.

DarrenWS6,

I like the look and longer mileage of the Toyo's, so they were the only MTs I considered. I wanted an aggresive tire without the loud highway noise I read about with some of the others. I considered the Procomp Extreme ATs, but they were only about $5 cheaper per tire. Plus, the stores which sold the Procomps were more expensive on the Black Rockstars.

In the end, I paid $2076 for the complete package of 33x12.50 Tires, 18x9 Wheels, Spline Chrome Lug Nuts, Mounting and Balancing, shipped to my door. The price was $500 less then the cheapest local tire dealer and more than $600 less then several of them. Overall, I thought it was a really good deal and I do consider myself a price conscience buyer. Plus, the lone "Stars" really fit in with the theme of a Texas-based truck...

Each board is attached with four 10mm bolts, so they were easy to remove. Here is a thread in the Appearance Products section which describes how I painted mine.

https://www.f150online.com/forums/ap...ards-pics.html

I have only had them painted for about two weeks, so I cannot say how well they will hold up to the elements. There are other members who have used the same paint on their running boards for longer periods of time and they are not reporting issues.

Overall, it was a fairly simple job and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to change the look of their truck without paying for new boards. It cost me less than $20 and about 3-4 hours of my time.
