I am soon to be getting an 04-08 f150. I am also going to be getting a 2.5 in leveling kit from 4wheelparts. I would like to know what is the MAX size in metric sizes with a 17 inch rim that I can fit under there. I have heard that you can fit a 35 inch tire. But I want to put BFG All Terrain K/O on there and is that max size a 315/70/17?? I have also heard that you may need to trim something but even after trimming will it still rub on a bump? And how hard is it to trim whatever it is I must trim. Someone who has been in the same boat please help!!!

No rubbing at all with these wheels but they did rub a little when turning on my 9" wide wheels with 5 inches of BS even with some minor trimming. I then went and bought the wheels I have now and tucked them more into the wheelwells and no rubbing at all. I've been driving over 100 miles a day to work and back for almost a year and they ride great. The only thing bad is that these spec wheels are hard to find. They are American Racing Crush model wheels and I have a Daystar 2 1/2" leveling kit. Look in my gallery for more info.

 

You can also fit them using the oem wheels, but they will rub the control arms slightly at full steering lock.

 

I looked at other American Racing wheels that were 17 by 8 inch with the 5.5 backspace and no offset. They were not the crush model though. I hope that will not make a difference. And with the Daystar kit, did you have to remove the struts and all of that or could you just bolt them right on top. I have heard of some kits on ebay that you dont have to disassemble the strut itself. I am looking for the best bang for my buck but I would like something metal that's going to last. 4wheelparts has their brand of leveling kit, but not sure of the difference between that and other kits available such as daystar and procomp and such. Or the $70 kits i saw on ebay. If you have any more direction it would be very helpful. Thank you so much for the replies. And about the stock wheels. I believe they are 7.5" wide and I heard they will cause tire issues as that exceeds the safe limit on maintaining a good bead...not too sure though I have seen a few pics of it, not sure of the long term effect though. Also pawpaw, how exactly do you tuck a wheel more into the wheel well? Sorry not over mechanically inclined. Not even sure if I can install the leveling kit myself.

 

The new Daystar kits are similar in design to the Autospring kit that bolts directly to the top of the coilovers. The older Daystar kits required the coilover be disassembled so a spacer could be placed on top of the coilspring and then a second spacer was bolted on top of the coilover assembly.
As for the wheels, as long as they are 8 inches wide with 5.5 inches of backspacing they will work.
Also, many members here have run 12.50 inch (305mm and 315mm) wide tires on the oem 7.5 inch wide wheels with no problems.

 

Tucking them in is keeping them in the wheelwells just like the stocker's. That mean's using a stock wheel or a one with close to stock specs. Wider wheels with different backspacing will cause the wheel and tire assembly to stick out more and may cause the tires to rub in the front. A lot of people like the wider stance but this will force you to run smaller tires to avoid rubbing issues.

 

Right. As a general rule, with a leveling kit on a 4x4 you can fit 35x12.50's with the OEM wheels (or one almost identical, like Paw Paws) or 33's with aftermarket wheels.
