camber/toe question
camber/toe question
ok so i'm having a problem getting my front end aligned. my wheels have a slight tilt inward at the top as though it has a negative camber. i have installed a 1.5 inch leveling kit on my truck and it has been aligned 3 times to correct this problem. on the most recent alignment i did notice it got a little better but is stilll there.
i've noticed on several trucks mainly modified suspension trucks with lifts have serious inward tilt.
where to i go from here? what do i need to have done to fix it i do not want my a/t tires wearing on the inside. a top arm thing that is more adjustable? or a lower arm thingy that is more adjustable hell i am willing to get what i need but no one is fixing my problem. or has a solution they run and hide and some other guy charges me for nothing.
the shop i took it to recommended a full ball joint replacement for 800 dollars i said well can't you just make the wheels straight for now he said yes thats easy but he failed. the steering wheel is even still crooked. pssh sad.
i have done a string test to see if it's straight and it's not straight. between 1 and 1.5 inches off. my lexus straight as a freaking plank, my envoy just as straight.... my modified ford bowed in.
but hey if a slight negative camber is ok then thats cool but to me it's bad, and gonna cause inside wear. not to mention to me it looks bad.

You didn't give any info on your truck other than it's a FOrd. However, you probably need a set of adjustable camber bolts. They are about $40 at most parts stores. THis is pretty common. I'd be leary of any shop that wasn't familar with this.
it is an 04 heritage f150 obviously just an 03 f150. 2wd. i know the leveling kit gives a negative camber but thats why i took it to the shop to get it fixed. ok so camber screws ima look into it thanks.
i want to get the right stuff wandell have a look, no shops around here know about this or someone would have said something by now. 3rd shop these are the best shops in town. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DJM-S...QQcmdZViewItem
that good?
man modifying my truck is getting expensive. ima have to pay for the dumb asses to re align it now.

ok so im going to go back to that shop to dispute my latest alignment. try and kindly convince them to redo the alignment with the new bolts.
if they try to fight me on it about saying that i need to install new ball joints wich costs 800 bones wich is not in imediate or dier need at the moment. the guy even said eventually it will get bad. ha!
so what would be a good thing to say. arm me with the knowledge of what to say..

I'd look up the adjustable camber bolts for your truck on one of the chain part store websites and print off the pics. I'd take that and ask if that would allow him to adjust your camber within specs. Personally, I think I'd go by another shop first and explain your problem and experience with the other shop and see what they say. Like I said earlier, I'd be worried to let someone work on my truck that didnt' know this already.
ok so i took it to another shop to find out if it was off or not he said it's terribly off.
so i go back to the shop ask what is needed. he said i need to replace the ball joints i got . so i threw out the idea that even if i replaced them i would still have the problem. and i mentioned the bolts ..
wellll then he changed his tune. nowww the story is the mechanic could not turn the stock camber bolts anymore and thats why it was still tilted inside. haha i mean this is a respectable shop and not the first shop that has done this to me.
wandell would i beable to install those camber bolts as i have taken apart the front end before to install my spacers. if i could then i could bring it back for a free alignment as promised. but if they install it it will cost me 60 dollars a side, i'm getting 60 dollared to death.

Yeah, I'm sure you could install them youself if you installed your own leveling kit.
Sounds like that shops reputation just bit the dust. Why the heck didn't they tell you this to start with? I'd find another shop. Heck, it may be worth the cost of an alignment to get someone aligning your trucks that knows what they are doing. It sure doesn't sound like your shop does.

oh my god wandell. thanks so much man. i installed em took about an hour :o, but as i can tell they are straight again. no tilt might actually almost have positive camber now! which they can easily fix tomorrow
gonna get it set properly tomorrow. thanks would have never figured it out.
