Question about 35x12.5 on OEM wheels
Question about 35x12.5 on OEM wheels
I have an '02 screw with a 2in leveling kit now, with 285x70x17 on it.
I'm having a Fabtech 6" lift put on very soon and want to get rid of my Mastercraft CT's for the Nokian Vatiiva MT 35x12.5x17.
I was told by someone that there is no way I can put that tire on my OEM wheels without it rubbing even with the 6inch lift unless I buy 8.5 inch wide rims with at least 4.5 inch of backspace.
Someone else told me that it should work.
I would like some of the local resident experts here to please help me answer this once and for all.
Thanks!!

The 97-03 oem wheels have 4.5 inches of backspacing just like almost every off road styled aftermarket wheel does. I've seen several 97-03 4x4's with oem wheels and the Fabtech lift. They should work fine untill you can get a wider aftermarket wheel.
Thanks for the replies.
According to one local wheel dealer (after looking my truck up) the OEM wheels have a positive offset of 14mm and that a 17x9 in wheel with a zero offset will work with that particular lift. Fabtech requires a 4.5" minimum backspace which supposedly is the same as a zero offset...dead center..I hope that's right.
It never ceases to amaze me how many answers one can get from posing one what appears to be simple question.
Think I better investagate further!
Thanks again

That's the problem with offset, it depends on the width of the wheel. A 10 inch wide wheel with 0mm offset doesn't have the same backspacing as a 7 inch wide wheel with 0mm offset.

you will be ok until you can afford wider wheels. fabtech says on their site you can run the stock wheels, which are 7.5'' wide and 4.5'' backspacing. However, they recommend a 9-10'' wide wheel with 4.5-4.625 (4 5/8) in backspacing. Does that make things clear as mud, now?
