choice to make 35/33

Hey everyone i was wondering for anyone that has 35 on there truck does it really make a big difference on pulling. MY sitution is i have a 05, 4.6 and 3.55. I want 35s but i pull heavy loads sometimes and i want to know how bad gass will go down. Bad enough i got 3.55 i wish it had 3.73 but i didnt buy it brand new and dont have extra cash for gears. I'd stick with 33s if you aren't going to regear, personally

I agree that you would be better off with the 33's. I felt a pretty good power loss with my 35's even with a 5.4 engine and 3.73 gear's.

I recommended 33's because you said you had a 4.6 engine with the tallish 3.55 gears and you said you towed heavy loads. If you never towed/hauled heavy loads you could probably get by with the oem gears and 35's.

the edge will help out with shift points and give you some performance gains but i would look at the custom tunes forum if you are going to invest the money in that part of your truck. and to repeat what everyone else said, i would stick with 33's.

Your next thoughts should be gears. If I were considering a programmer in your situation, I'd put that money aside and save it up for gears. Looking back (since hind sight is 20/20) I didn't like my 5.4 with 33's and 3.55's. I went to 4.10's with 33's and would recommend at least 4.30's with 35's. Gas mileage...mine went up when I went to 4.10's. FWIW, 3.73's shouldn't even be a consideration even if you're going with 33's.

I agree, plus 33's will look better with a leveling kit - 35's look too stuffed without a suspension lift IMO.

I have the smaller 4.6 L, 3.73 gears, and 35" tires. i tow fairly heavy loads, haul heavy loads, and do so in some less the ideal terrain. I pull up some incredibly steep grades, and do it often. no problems here. I do have plans for 4.88's in the future, but don't be afraid of the 35" tire. Your truck can handle it.
