Ticking Sound From L/F Brake/Wheel

'05 F-150 4WD 32,000 miles
Suddenly I have a ticking sound coming from the left front.
If the vehichle has been sitting awhile it will take a block or so for it to start ticking...
If I keep driving, and everything keeps getting hotter, the ticking gets louder. Seems the louder the hotter.. It seems that when i turn the wheel left or right the ticking subsides, for a moment, then returns...
First I thought it may be a pebble lodged somewhere it shouldn't be, found none.
Then I thought maybe it could be those clips that are between the pads and the braket that holds them.
I removed the clips, still have the ticking.

I checked the boots on the axel for tears or damage...found none.

No Rocks or nails in tire either...

Does anyone think this could be a wheel bearing??????

I have a stealership appointment for Tuesday.

A wheel bearing will give you a humming noise and it will change tones depending on speed and turns. A ticking is not a wheel bearing.

If you totally removed the hardware I would clean them put them back on and put some grease where the metal and pad backing meet. Also spray some disc brake quite on the pad backings. Make sure they aren’t low enough for the metal indicator to touch the rotor. Also check the metal backing plate something might of hit it so it slightly hits the rotor. Did you inspect the rotor for rust? Usually I get a large pry bar and rotate the rotor so the pry bar removes the rust on the outer edge of the rotor. I had a couple cars where rust from the outer edge of the rotor hits the caliper and makes a tick noise. Just some things to look at before bringing it to the dealership.

Thanks for the reply. Now that you mention the rust..... I did notice rust flakes on the inside of the rim when I took it off. I also am now thinking that I should have cut the rotors when I did the brakes about a month & 1/2 ago. There is a small ridge on the outer edge of the rotor.... I'll knock off the rust on the egde and if I still have the tick I'll have 'em cut..

sounds like an iwe problem to me more that a brake problem. Do a search for iwe and you will find many people have had this problem.

Crap

I am going nuts. I figured the only thing I didin't do when i did the brakes was cut/replace the rotors. So I installed new OEm rotors, still have same noise......

maybe it is IWE? I can't 'feel' anything in the pedal or the steering wheel..

Perhaps it is time to see what the Ford Mechanic can do.

Have you tried putting it in 4WD?? In 4WD if it stops making the noise then you have a IWE issue. It seems common for the IWE solenoids to go bad.

If there is an IWE problem the locking collar isnt in position correctly and that noise is the teeth from the collar and axle grinding each other. This due to either a bad solenoid, vacuum problem, or hub issue. Do you still have a warranty on your truck?

Yeah, tried the 4wd and still ticking. Yes another 4 years or 38,000 miles left on warranty.
