Why would a wheel company...... ???

make a wheel that won't fit anything ? I mean like say I find a wheel which is an 18 x 9, with a 6 x 135 bolt pattern. Okay, they know that this is going to be used on nothing but Ford trucks, correct ? (I mean maybe Ford SUV's too) but 6 x 135 is strictly a Ford bolt pattern right ?

Now, why would they ever make such a wheel, and "not have" the correct offset, and / or back spacing for this wheel to fit Ford trucks ??? You might tell me that "they will fit... but only with smaller tires". Okay, but smaller tires are never a problem. Why wouldn't they make them to fit as large a tire as possible, to have a maximum number of potential buyers ?

So then after a company builds such a wheel, do they sit back and say, "Wow ! That was a great looking wheel too. I wonder why it never sold" ?

Ahhh geeeez ! I wonder why ?

What's the deal with this ?

Just curious,
Fish

some wheels were made for those who have heavily modified trucks or they realize that most people buying the wheel will like the "smaller tire" look.

never really made sense to me why they would limit themselves in a way like that.

What type of backspacings are you talking about not fitting? In your 18x9 example many people are running wheels with everything from a 4.5 to a 6" backspacing. I have saw very few wheels that fall outside this range.

One thought I have is that different backspacings give you different looks. I dont' think my truck would look nearly as good with the 6' backspacing wheels (I have the 4.5" backspacing), so the stick out farther

Well Jim....

Good question. I had found some Moto Metal 957's a while back that I was told would not work on a 2wd, with only a 2" lift.....

Besides that, I guess I've just heard quite a few people say, about certain wheels.... "that might not work"..... but not too many saying, "doh, that didn't work".....

Hmmmm....

its generally not going to be a wheel that keeps you from fitting. Usually you can find a tire that will "accommodate" the wheel you want. I don't know a whole lot about 2wd

Wandell usually has a lot of good insight into what will fit depending on backspacing

GO WINGS!!!

what they really should do..

What they really should do is offer every wheel in AT LEAST 3 offsets...

For instance these should be standards... 6", 5", 4.5"
and they could throw in some extras if they really want to sell the wheels.. like 5.75", 5.25", 4.75"

I ran into this when I was looking for wheels.. it's either not the right width wheel, or not the right backspacing, or both, or it has everything you want except it's the wrong finish, or style.

You basically have to make a compromise in one way or another, unless you get real lucky on finding a wheel that has everything that you "want"...
