Calipers loose?
Today i just noticed that, going over rough, bumpy streets that my calipers are bouncing around making a clacking noise and it stops when i push the brake pedal. I puled the front tire off the passenger side and the bolts are both tight, but its moving in a front to back motion which is whats making the noise but what im wondering is if the floating is supposed to be there, then whats causing the loud clatter noise in them when going over bumps? For the longest time i thought the noise was coming from the wheel hubs but its defiantly from both front calipers. '01 scab 5.4......Thanks

Be carefull my truck did this and ended up rubbing a groove on the inside of my wheel causing it to split in half while I was driving...ended up being a bolt that backed out though so if your bolts are there I dont see why they would be moving

i have the same problem with my rear brakes though!! i cant seem to figure out why they move side to side..the bolts were taken out cleaned and have loc-tite but they still have some play in them

Are the anti rattle clips still in place or did they fall out somewhere?
That was the culprit on my old truck. Put new clips in and the noise went away.

this happened to me the other day. the top bolt that holds the caliper on backed out and the caliper fell down and rubbed the wheel. luckily i caught it in time and it just scratched it. but for awhile is was sounding like you were explaining.

They are moving front to back as in from the front bumper to the rear bumper.

They should be right next to the caliper both above and below, I can't seem to find a decent picture however.
However, look at the picture here.

and right where the caliper sits between the two pieces of black metal there should be little spring clips, one on the top and one on the bottom. This stops the caliper from rattling between those two metal parts.
