Gorilla Lugs Rusted Already.

When I ordered my wheels from DTD in July, I talked the salesman into throwing the set of Gorilla Spline Drive lug nuts in for free in addition to a price break on the wheels.

They are nice lugs until they came in contact with the road salt as they rusted already. I called DTD and they sent me out a new set sinc eI only had them seven months, but it is just a pain now that I am going to have to swap out lug nuts in spring and fall as I thought these would hold up better than a cheap set of chrome lugs. I even put Wheel Glaze on them to help protect them before winter.

How well do you think these rusted lugs will hold up next winter if I sandblast them and them paint them for winter use? Any thoughts?

Sorry I can't offer any advice for your lugs....but how are your MB wheels holding up? I have a set of machined finish MB wheels also, but I take them off in the winter because I don't want to risk ruining them.

The wheels are fine (I don't know if you are aware, but MB wheels have a 3 year finish warranty).

After you have them blasted, get them powdercoated, it will hold up a lot better than paint will.

I thought about that but I want to keep the cost down as they will only be on for the winter months.

I haven't had any problems with my MB's at all. Only salt here in San Diego is in the Beach areas, but haven't had any problems there either.

I know that Gorilla makes polished Stainless lugs but I would assume that they would cost quite a bit for 24 of them.

My Gorilla lugs are the same. Covered in rust spots. My wheels are also looking pretty good. Cleaned them today for the first time in about 5 months because of the crappy weather we have over here in the UK. Barely any brakedust on them (thanks EBC!). Looked pretty good and the salt and chemicals they put onthe road over didn't appear to affect them too badly.

I might have to check out those lugs. CLaim to be rust free for life? $40 for a set of 16. They don't appear to be the locking kind, though.

I'm not sure if my lugs are stainless or chromes, but they aren't ribbed like the rusted ones pictured. I haven't had the slightest bit of pitting or rusting either. They were thrown in for free by the sales guy at Discount because it took them like 2 hours to put balanace and put them on the truck.
