Here comes the snow...

Alright, here's the dealio...

My uncle owns a tire shop so I get tires at cost. I have my 4 OEM FX4 Rims (17") that I want to run this winter.

Right now I'm running aftermarket 16" rims with 35's MT. I want to run an AT for the winter on the FX4's.

So, money not necessarily being the issue, and I am pretty confident that I could address any rubbing issues with my BL, what would you guys run on 'em? Lookin' for a good AT that's a 35 or close, to run on the FX4 rims to handle the winter, on and off road.

go with a 315/70R17 (35x12.50) or a 305/70 or even a 295/70 which if you wanted an at in those last two sizes it would have to be Nitto TG. for the 35's, consider the BFG TA KO and GY Wrangler AT Extreme, Nitto TG, Pro comp Extreme AT.

Thanks for the suggestion.

That certainly helps me narrow down the choices.

I was thinking the biggest AT that would stuff underneath the well with the BL. I've got a 315/75/16 MT under there right now. Anything that would be a cheap AT tire closest to that size on the stockers. But do you think like a Nitto or BFG 33 would handle better in the snow.

I totaled my 2000 last year in a big snow storm. I couldn't stop in time. My biggest concern is traction. It was a 20 car pile up, but I didn't have the 4WD engaged.

To be honest, I'm thinking a 33 AT and I'll have to be sure to rotate them rountinely to get the most wear. Any particular brand for the snow especially you guys recommend.

well, the biggest you could go would be the 35's.....A lot of the AT's are not made in a 35.....you could definitely go 33 but they are gonna look small, that is what I have on my stock truck.

That sucks (no offense)! The whole reason I put the BL on was to run 35's. So, I'll leaning more toward the biggest BFG I can put on that rim without rubbing. I'll probably have him price the Pro Comp too.

Thanks for the help.

yeah consider the Mickey Thompson ATZ as well........yeah a 35x12.50 is really the largest size you would wanna put on a 7.5'' wide rim, and it still is not recommended....people do it all the time and with proper maintenance never have any problems.

You want a narrow tire for snow, so it digs in instead of sitting on top. The smaller the contact patch, the more weight per square inch, and that's where you get your grip. 12.50s will suck in the snow. You'll also want a tire with self-cleaning tread.

I run Bridgestone A/T Revo, 255/70-17 and they're great in the snow, and even on ice. You should at least read some reviews before you make your decision.

For what it's worth, in 2004 this is what my girlfriend did while driving my truck in the snow on 315/75/R16 BFG A/Ts. Rolled it in the median - thankfully she wasn't hurt.

Now I'm not sure which had a larger role in the crash, the 35" BFGs or a woman behind the wheel She crashed it on my birthday too.

The truck had a 6" Skyjacker lift if anyone is wondering.

yah you aint the only one. i had my 99 ranger offroad all decked out (33's Swampers, 01 edge conversion, flareside offroad package) came around the same corner i have since i could drive and that day it happened to be a tad slushy. now the ranger was no powerhorse with a 3.0 with 4.10 gears mind you, i broke traction, fishtailed a buncha times and up and over 5 times. totaled that poor guy i was ok but my shorts were not the worst part is how time slows down, i can still remember watching the corners of the windshield crack.

I find for snow, my GY Wrangler Silent Armors great, the reason I say is that I'm almost certain I see them in a 315/70/17 size. Maybe they were called the extreme's or something. Thumbs up on BFG AT KO's too.

I'm pissed, right now they're calling for snow, a few inches anyways and my truck is having tranny issues.

I've been looking for a set of tires lately too, that I want to run all year, and its winter here for half the year. I'm going to be putting a 35-12.5 on a 8" wide rim, and am planning on getting a Pro Comp XTerrain. Its a nice aggressive MT tire, but also has good sipping for icy and wet conditions unlike most offroad type tires. I know you want an AT tire, but you might want to try and find one with sipping. I'm running BF Goodrich AT KOs right now and they slide all over the place in 2 wheel drive(w/ LS) but in 4wd they don't slide around very much.
