17" rims on 04 fx4

I came across a free set of 33x12.5x17 tires for my truck so I am going to buy some 17" wheels so I can use them. The problem I am having is every 17" wheel I see looks so small (I know they ARE small) but I want something that wont look out of place tiny. I tried to search for only 17's in the big show off your rims thread but it doesnt work. What are your opinions on 17's, which ones look the best without looking so small?

Go to the last page of that thread. You will see my truck there with Pro Comp 1089s in 17x9. There is nothing tiny about a 17" rim unless you are used to running huge rims with rubber bands for tires. A.K.A. 22s and above...

If you actually use that FX-4 off road, the taller sidewall of a 17" rim spec tire versus say a 20" gives you more flex, where the tire can wrap around an obstruction to grab onto it. Much better for trail riding and rock crawling (why you would take a full size pickup rock crawling I do not know, but you get the idea...)

1089's

dbhost I was just looking at your rims very closely actually and they look a little different than the ones on ebay. I really like the ones on ebay but there are a few different auctions and I really like them but yours look different. Maybe it is because they have tires mounted but they look really small compared to the ones for sale. I was really looking to get some just like yours but with a shallower lip. If you dont mind, where did you get yours and what did you give for em? Thanks

I bought mine at 4 Wheel Parts Wholesalers by the Astrodome in Houston Texas. The rims have gone up in price since I bought them, but they were something like $119.00 each when I got them... I think they model, and size I got are running $149.00 these days.

If I had it to do over again, I probably would have bought the Chrome version though. Less maintenence...

bjuneau, I have 17's on my rig and they don't look small, although I have the stock size tires on my truck.

I don't think they look that small either, I actually like 16's better, more tire. But all 17' are 17'' in diameter......

I think they look great on 03-older but on my 04 they all seem too small. Is this just me or does anybody else out there agree with me? What I want to do is pick out a 17" rim that does not appear so small with 33's under my 4wd

Check out my gallery and look at my 17's on my '04, they are big enough for me! I have 2 different set's of 17's and my stock 18's.

pawpaw, I like the 10-hole rims you have. Who makes them and what is the backspacing on them? Thanks for all the replies

They are American Racing Crater's, 17x9 with 5" backspace. Easy wheels to keep clean compared to the wheels I have on now!

too bad american racing dont make any of the classics (Ventura, Atlas, Python, Cyclones) for the 04+ f150's . i'd love to roll on some 17x10 Atlas's

ATOM, I have to agree with you, a set of Atlas wheels would look good on a 04+. The reason I went with the pythons is for the classic styling, I thought they suited my truck better, not to mention my choices were pretty limited for the 5x135.

I'm rocking on some stockers with 33x12.50R17 Mickey Thompson Baja Radials, and 17's is 17's, just look for a rim that doesn't have a huge lip..look at the mickey thompson classic lock and classic lock II, u'll see that the classic lock makes the rim appear smaller, the classic lock II would appear bigger, and the rims would stick out more due to the backspacing (of 5.5 I believe) so again, the illusion of bigger
