Brakes Problem

Okay i have a 2002 ext-cab fx4.

Exactly a year ago i took my breaks to "Just Brakes" and had the pads and everything changed along with new rotors being fixed and everything. They told me that i would need to get this done and lesson learned it cost me $700.
Now wit constant squeaking and feeling that my brakes are messed up i took them to the local car shop and had them check on the brakes. Well this time they said that my front rotors are all jaggedy (spell) and that they are supposed to be smoothed out. Also said that my back pads had only about 15% on them now. He said i probably got brake gyped where they only put brake pads on and dind't do anything else to fix the original problem.

Questions I Have:
1. How often do rotors get replaced??? Did i get ripped off and am i going to need to take it back and argue at them.
2. How often do brake pads and drums need to get replaced also. Seems like exactly a year is awfully soon for them to be fixed.
3. Can i replace all this stuff myself. How hard is it going to be to get the right parts and to replace rotors, pads, and everything needed for this. Or Should i just go to a good reliable car shop or "the stealership" to get them replaced.

I hate "Just Brakes"

Just Brakes = Rip Off

Dude never mess with those type places at all. Yes a year is too soon to be having brake problems if your pads and rotors were replaced. How many miles do you have on the brakes since repair? You could have went to the dealership got brakes all the way around and not paid that. The dealer sends out specials in the mail to me all the time with deals on brakes and what not. Search the boards by typing in Just Brakes and you will hear of other problems and high quotes from them. They advertise the low teaser $99 rate to get u in the door then tell you that your brakes are shot. I have an 03 and to get the brakes done at the dealer was under $500 all the way around. If your brakes were not giving any serious problems and just worn down pads there is no reason for it to cost that much. Sounds like you just needed pads and rotors resurfaced. JB broke u of some.

i avoid those chain places. ask around and find a good reputable local mechanic. when a guy has to relay on his good name to stay in bussiness, hell do better job.my local guy has been in bussiness for around 20 years. its just him and 2 bays, and hes usually backed up 2-3 days cause he has so much work. now that says something. forget those chain places.

Well on the side note of hopeing that it is free. Next time an issue like this comes up how hard is it to replace your brake pads yourself?
