Going with Ford's brakes and Rotor (long)

My dealer just informed me that I need rear rotors, and pads front and rear on my 2006 F150 XLT SC. I got 41,500 miles, this will be the first ever brake job on this truck. About 39,000 has been towing a 6x12, or a 7x14 enclosed trailer with motorcycles aboard. About the max I have towed has been around 4000 lbs. Also, I go fast, I cruise at about 80 to 90 mph.. And I be using the brakes too.

The Ford service manager told me the price will be in $725 to $775 range on this. I have searched and read the threads on brakes. From what I saw, most likely I would save a couple hundred if I got aftermarket parts, and have a shop do the labor. However, this is my first truck, and she has been 99.9% perfect for the 41,500 miles.

So, I am going to let my dealer do the job this time. Also, a front tie-rod has gone bad, and since I got the extended bumper to bumper warranty, that will be replaced under warranty. I must admit, I enjoy the chit out of this truck!! I get just as much enjoyment driving my truck 1000 miles to a racetrack as to flying around the racetrack on my motorcycle, and that's fun.

I got a lot of good info reading these brake threads. So, come around 70 to 80k on my truck, I be needing brakes again, by that time I should be knowlegable and confident enough to get aftermarket brakes.

Just my 2 cents on this..

WOW thats high, I just did mine myself at 10,000 mile because of the brake dust issue, Wagner thermo quite pads cost $41.00 and the rotors cost $51.00 each, I don't know what the rears would have cost but it can't be much more then the front if not less. If you can do it yourself look at the money you can save.

I would love to save the money. I can not even turn a wrench in the least little bit. I don't even know enough to tell somebody else what I want done. That is the main reason I am going with the dealer this time..

no offense, take this as lightly as possible, but the very reason that you are being screwed over as badly as you are is b/c you don't know very much... trust me i used to know next to nothing about cars, and our trucks particularly, and now know a little bit more, so i know where you are coming from. you can save so much money using aftermarket parts which many times are even BETTER than oem ones. however, if you are insistent upon oem parts, at least go to another ford dealership or two to see how their estimate will compare to your current one. trust me, even one different ford dealerships may screw you over much more so than another. all i am saying is fully research every possibility/part/shop before you do anything. you'll be amazed at how much time/money you can save by doing this. again, just take what i said as a friend trying to give you advice, and NOT as someone talking down to you and calling you stupid... that's just my two cents...

I agree you may even try a local brake shop such as a Midas or Goodyear center, what they use is most lilkley the same or better then Ford and will be much less then 725-750 heck I bought 4 20 inch wheels for that price let alone just brakes.
Better then that pick up a Haynes manual and learn to do it yourself, for brakes only take an 11mm socket to change the pads, from your sig you skydive and race bikes surely you can replace the brakes yourself and save the cash for another skydive or bike race.

Watch carefully at the Ford dealership and you may see a delivery truck from Napa or Pebboys.

After the brake job, take a good look at the parts to make sure they are Ford.

Or , order the parts yourself from the parts department, and then when they come in, let the service department install.

Your dealership is not giving you any breaks, I have been receiving coupons for brake jobs at 1/3 that price. Dont let them take you to the cleaners, If you are a loyal customer, that is fine, but ask them for a discount, they are supposed to be competitive. Tell them you can go elsewhere at get the job done cheaper, and you would like to give them the business, but treated fairly on the prices..... good luck
