What size tire with 3'' body lift

I have a 2001 4X4 with 17'' wheels and I am going to be putting a 3'' body lift on it soon. I am wondering what size tires I can go with with out changing to speed to much or fooling with the integrity of the suspension components. Is 285/70/17 the way to go?

You can go up to a 35x12.50. That is what I have now. I had 33's for years and they look good also.

I only have 7.5 inch wide wheels though. I would like to stay with the stock wheels. Would 35's change anything on the truck such as reliability speed sensors....? Ive heard the 285/70/17 is good. Will these look good or too small? Also whats the widest tire i could get on the 7.5 inch wheels. I dont know much here so if you could tell me what a good all around sive for my application that would be great. Thank you guys for the help.

You can put 35" tires on your stock rims. Your speedometer will change maybe by 5 mph or so. IMO i think 285's will look way to small with a 3" BL. But Wandell knows first hand so I'll let him take it from here...

285/70 x 17's will fit fine and look normal without the lift kit.

My '97 4wd wears 285/75-16 (equal to 285/70-17) tires on stock wheels -- i think they equal 32.5 or 33 inches,

So i personally think that size would look a little short with a lift in place, but everyone is entitled to their opinion

So if i was to get 35's what sizes should i be looking for. Wont 35 X 12.5 be to wide for my stock rims? What tires should i be looking at? Is there a metric tire that will fit or will those fit?

Your OEM wheels are 17x7.5. Most tire manufacturers recommend an 8 to 10 inch wide wheel for a 12.50 inch wide (315mm) tire. However, several members have run 315/70-17 (35x12.50) tires on OEM wheels without any problems. Why not install the 35's and then a little later install a wider aftermarket wheel?

I really dont have alot of money to buy new rims. I was really hopeing i could just get away with tires and a body lift. If i run the 35's on the stock rims will I be ok? Running tires this big wont hurt or accelerate wear on any of the suspension parts?

The larger the tire, the more wear and tear. However with only a 35, it won't be enough to notice over the life of the truck. I'd much rather buy a used truck with 38's that had been properly maintained than one completely stock that had been abused and neglected.

Remember, with the price of gas going up the taller and heavier the tires are will cause you to burn more gas, especially in stop and go traffic. In addition your performance will suffer too. Just my 2 cent's!

One member at FTW has about 60,000 miles on his 315/70-17 (35x12.50) BFG AT KO's and the OEM wheels.

Nice i am very excited. How much Rub will i have with the 35's? Sorry i am asking so many questions. I just have to make up my mind soon and i still have no idea what to do. I deff think the 35's will look better and i will get more clearance. I dont have enough money for wheels. I am going to install my body lift in a couple weeks. 35's or 33's???????????????? Wandell your the man. I have alot of respect for people that are so helpfull on forums. I have no idea about tire sizing and such so i know i could ask my questions here.

With 315/70-17's you will rub on the frame and sway bar slightly at full steering lock. Go over to FTW and do a gallary search for DeereGeff. You can narrow the search features down to lifted, 4x4, F-150, Supercrews or just do a member search to see first hand what 35's on OEM wheels with a body lift will look like.

35's (315/70/17) with a 3"-4" lift look good. Some guys even run 35's on their truck (stock wheels) with no lift. I have 33's on my stock height 4x4 and think they look a little small, they would definately look small with a lift. The 315mm wide tire is slightly less than ideal on the OE 7.5" wide wheel but it will do. Lots of folks run setups like this with no problems.
