wheel fitment

first off, love the site. lot of helpful info. so, i'm getting ready to buy my first vehicle, a 1998 F-150 with a 4 inch lift. i need to buy new wheels nad tires, because he has $20 steel wheels, and 31's.... looks terrible. so, i'm looking at
16'' and 17'' wheels, but can't decide between those two. i know i want 35's. so, is there a difference in tire price between the wheel sizes? and what would you recommend? im new to the F-150 scene, been into Stangs forever. but i used the logical side of my brain, and decided a F-150 makes allot more sense then me buying this 94 Cobra that was the original plan. here are the specific wheels i'm looking at. the backspacing is different, and not sure which one fits better. thanks allot guys oh, also, if htere's another place where ican get these wheels, or another place to get cheaper tires, by all means, let me know.... OH, one more thing. whats a good priced tire that won't blow my eardrums out while on the highway? but will still be good offroad?

Check out this link for some great prices on the 1079's.

AS far as the size, a general rule I have discovered is as follows:
As rim diameter goes up, so goes the cost.

If you have an older body style F150, I am pretty sure 16's will fit, and from owning an '03 at one time, I know 17's will fit.

If you have a 4" lift, you can fit 35" tires, maybe 37".

Cant go wrong with BFG AT's

Those are pretty good deals from ebay, but you must consider if you buy just the tires, and then get your rims somewhere else, you will probably have a hard time getting them mounted and balanced without getting reamed (unless you have a friend at a tire shop)

I have decided to get some rims from the net, and then purchase my tires from a local tire shop because they will give me a decent price on the tires, and I also get free rotate/balance. I already asked them if I brought my own rims if they would mount them, thay said cool.

I have no experience with pro comp tires, but I have had BFG AT's in the past, and I can tell you that the tread wear is exceptional, and they pull great, too.

You should have no problems fitting the 315/75/16 (34.6")

I'd suggest a 16x10 inch wheel with 4.5 inches of backspacing and some 315/75-16 (35x12.50) tires

i would definitly go with the 16" rim if you haven't bought yet. with a 16 your tire options are alot broader (and less expensive) if you want a good, cheap tire go with a Summitt Mud Dawg. it is very good in the mud and isn't just real bad loud. i've ran them on: '02 f-150 screw, '04 f-150 xcab, '05 f-250 screw diesal, and '89 toyota... i love them and i can't stress the fact that they are VERY INEXPENSIVE!!!!

on the '02 screw they ran for around 30k miles... maybe more... and like i said they aren't real loud until they get down to around 1/4-1/8 tread. as far as where to get them i don't know what area you are in and what is around you. if any tire companies around you can get a delta tire they can probably get the mud dawg
