I have a 2006 F150 Supercab XLT 4x4. I want to know the largest tires I can fit with stock 17" wheels and no leveling kit. I just want the tires to fill up the wheel wells a little better.

First off mange I'm new to the board and just bought the truck so if I get flamed for asking a question I guess they wouldn't want to help me anyhow. Second off even using the search feature someone might have tried something new after the fact that may help me. And as for the tread you lead me to it says you can easily fit a 285/70-17(33x11.50) but it don't tell me if that is the max. I would love to fit 305's or 315's but I doubt they'll fit without rubbing. I've been told 295's would work but don't know about that either.

First off Jason, I was just giving you a tip to try and keep you from getting flamed. Yep, most of the guys on here are great people, but there are always a few that like to run you down. I can see where you may have misunderstood my meaning, but that's not how it was meant.
Secondly, Wandell (who was the contributor on the thread listed) is pretty much the resident tire guru for this site. He usually hits this forum a couple times a day. I think the 285's are about as big as you can get without a leveling kit. We'll check with Wandell when he gets online.

 

Another thing to consider is rim width. Stock rims are 7.5" wide. If you go too wide with those rims, it can cause wear and other problems. Most tire manufacturers list what rims to use with their tires. A half inch too narrow isn't too bad, but I wouldn't go more than that.

 

you can fit 33's without a leveling kit on stock rims. with a leveling kit you can fit up to 35" on the stock rims

The 285/70-17's are just under 33" (32.7"), but there is a 295/70-17 (Nitto makes one) that is just a smidge over 33" and will probably still be good (33.13") but it is also another half inch wider. Have to check on that one for you.

That's why I stated what I did. Stock are 7.5" wide rims. Most 285 and larger tires need 8" wide or larger wheels.

 

Ah. You meant 'If you go too wide of a tire with those rims,'. That's what threw me. I thought you were talking about rim width. LOL.

I can't recall anyone running 315/70-17's without a leveling kit. We know they will fit using a leveling kit and the OEM wheels. You should be able to fit a 33x12.50 (305/65-17) without a leveling kit.
