torsion bars

I have a quick question on torsion bars. I have a '97 f150 4x4, and I know that tightening the torsion bars is a cheap lift. I did mine some to clear 285/75/16 and to try to level the front with the rear, but I only cranked them half way, and I still have plenty of threads left showing that I could tighten. My front end still is lower than my rear end. I want to crank them more to completely make my truck level. I was wondering if there is any drawback or safety hazard with fully tightening them, and also if anyone has tightened them all the way. And if so, have you noticed any problems other than rougher ride? Thanks in advance.

If you crank them too far, it puts your CV joints at a severe angle which results in premature wear. Just keep and eye on the angles.

I was wondering, how would I go about tightening my torsion bars?

Hey hawg_man, I have the same wheels as u on my 99. I also want to go with 285's and did u have to crank your torsion bars up so they didnt rub?

nope, havent touched em yet, they dont rub at all. I think I am going to go ahead and crank em here soon though, just because I want the truck to sit up level. Go for the 285's, you'll be glad you did, it'll really enhance the looks of your truck. (all of this assuming your truck is a 4x4 as well)

yeah it;ll be fine, its really one one inch wider and taller, but the difference in looks is really noticeable in my opinion. What tire are you going with?
