Need Tires Baaaaad. What to do????

This isnt a sympathy post. Anyone on here that recently upgraded the tire/rims on an Expedition or F150 have a factory 16" set laying around?

I know I know, I have an Expedition so I should be able to afford tires. Well.. Things have happened and now I am in desparate need of tires and just cannot afford them at all. I have never been this broke in my life. Crap just snowballed money wise. You know the saying. When it rains it pours. Well it has poured cats and dogs lately and my vehicle is down to the point we either need to get tires or start walking. Is there places that sell used sets of tires? They have to go somewhere when someone throws a set of nice new rims and tires on their ride. Or does someone out there have a set that they would sell cheap. Or if they are sitting in back of the garage waiting for a place to toss them I will pay to have them shipped to Wichita, KS. I just need some help here. or pointed in a direction of cheap tires. Supercheap. LOL.

The reason I am posting here is becuase this is probably the largest grouping of Expedition and truck enthusiasts in the world and if anyone would know where I could get some or have some themselves it would be you guys.

The size I have right now are as follows

255/70 R16 and I live in wichita KS.

Thanks for taking the time to read this. RL

Try going to a dealership and seeing if they upgraded any vehicles and have any wheels and tires laying around. My local dealer always had stacks of them. Offer $200 for a set, and then turn around and sell just the wheels somewhere and re-coup some of the cost.

Also, try www.craigslist.com

Sorry to hear about this. In my area, just about all the tire stores sell used tires for about $25 each. I would check your local tire stores.

You would think someone locally such as bone yards and big tire supercenters would have them but I have been on the phone for an hour now and not one of the probably 30 places I called total has a set of 4 that match. Oh well. It was worth a try.

I guess my next shot is if someone wants to part with a set that is laying around. Hey it never hurts to ask right??

Thanks guys.

I didnt think about it but I have the 255/70R16's on my truck now. Those arent original. Is that what you guys have (if you have stock sizes that is)? one guy I called asked if I could go with a 265. I really dont know what the difference is. How do the sections of the tire numbers work?

Thanks

Bro if your hurting for money then check out walmart they have great deals on sets of 4 tires for just ~ 300 bucks installed. try some liberators in the 245,75,16's they will fit fine and save you a bit more. they have other brands there and they have lifetime rotation, flat warrenty.
good luck...

What is the difference of the 245 and the 255. also the 75 vs the 70. is that smaller profile and narrower? Never really got into learning those #'s. Always just said, "put the same size on".

Thanks

the 245/75/16 would be a hair taller and a hair skinnier than a 255/70/16.

The 245 or 255,etc is the width of the tire in mm. The 70 or 75 is the aspect ratio, it tells you the height of the tire from the bead to the top of the tread. Its a percentage of the width of the tire. so a 245/75 for example, the height of the tire is 75% of 245mm. Hope that helps.
