Largest 255/70/17 replacement w/0 spacers

Hi guys,
Searched around and can't find an answer. I am going to pick up an 06 xlt 4x4next week and want to take the stock Generals off and put a larger tire on the stock rims. Without putting in spacers, what is the largest size I could buy that won't rub? Also, should I choose a truck with 373 gears over the 355since I am jumping up to a bigger tire? Thanks much.

You can easily fit a 285/70-17 or 285/65-18 tire. Both are basically 33x11.50 tires. Also, I would go with the 3.73 or 4.10 gears.

Thanks alot. Hopefully Discount Tire or Bell Tire will give me something toward the Generals. How much do you think it will throw off my speedo (if any)?

I went from 255/70-16's (30's) to 285/75-16's (33's) and it threw my speedo off 5 mph at 60 mph.

Well....I might as well ask. If I am going to put 285/70/17's on, what tire would you go with. I am leaning toward the BFG All Terrain's (based on past experience). Thanks.

Discount Tire gave me $300 credit for my OEM 265/70R17 GY RTS tires towards my new tires with 200 miles on them. THe particular store had to transfer from another location and when I came bac kto install, the mananger was questioning the $300 amount. i had it in writing. Make sure you arrange this before picking up the truck because the amount drops quickly with even a few hundred miles.

Good call. Hopefully there is someone that generous at the stores around this area.
