285/75R16 Tire Questions

I have a 2002 F150 4x4 with stock 16x?? wheels. This is my truck and the wheels I have:

I was planning on replacing the wheels and tires later this summer, but today I ran a drill bit through the bottom and out the side of the tire.

Will 285/75R16 tires fit both my stock wheels and the 16x10 wheels I plan to buy in the near future safely?

Will it hurt the tires being run for a couple thousand miles on a narrow 7"/7.5" wheel and then being placed on a 10" wheel?

Thanks for any help.

16x7, they will be fine, I have 3 friends running 285's on 16x7's and none have had any problems at all.....once you put em on the 16x10's you will probly have to trim a little of the valence to keep them from rubbing but nothing big...

won't hurt anything if you put them on stockers right now. I am running 285's on stockers waiting until I can afford 16X10's so I can go up to 305's. YOu will be fine.

I did it as well until a few weeks ago when I finally got the nod from the wife. I went with the 16 X 8 and have to do a little trimming now. I do enjoy the new look though.

Thanks for the help guys....I guess I will go ahead and order the 285/75R16 BFG AT KOs and wait a month or so to order the 16x10s (Im really leaning towards the Weld Racing Super Single IIs).

Hick,

Do you have a straight on shot of your truck so I can see how far your tires set in? Nice truck by the way.

Thanks.

DB - Thank you. There is so much chrome out there - and it's sweet - but I wanted something different. I was looking for bad - not thug. I think I did all right. I think you will be happy as hell with the 16 X 10s and they will look real good on your truck. I am kind of kicking myself now, but I like what I've got. I just made a new album with photos of how the wheels made a difference, so you can click on the link and get a better idea than these little photos here. I started with the stock 16 X 7. The 16 X 8's brought it out about 1 1/2". I imagine the 10s will bring it out to the top side of the fender. If you want a full front shot, let me know, I'll go get it.

Now like you I bought the tires first, so when I was wheel shopping I could only look at 16s. Think about that.

Stock 16 X 7 - rear Crush 16 X 8 - rear

Stock 16 X 7 - front Crush 16 X 8 - front

Hope this helps - Hick

Thanks for the pictures hick....I thought about going to 18s, but I want a 285/65R18 and I only see one company that makes them....Im scared they will discontinue them because only 1 out of the 4 dealers I talked to could even get that size. There are tons of companies that make the 285/75R16.....so I think I will just go 16x10. Not to mention, the 16s will save me about $300+. Thanks.

Wandell...I have talked to you before...I love your truck and you have been a great help. Your truck is a lot of my reason for going 10in wide. Your mod list says you have Eagle Alloy 102s....Your signature picture has the 102s?...what wheels are on your truck in the gallery....they look different. Thanks.

1997 expie speedo calibration how-to...?

Hello all,

I just upgraded to 285/75/16's, and as far as I can figure I am off a few MPH up at around 70 + ...I seem to remember from an old thread that 97's had to be calibrated by a gear, wheras the 98 on up was computer. At any rate, what is my best bet for getting my speedo back on track?

Thanks,

TT
